Memory errors in Movie Studio HD Platinum
Posted by Brett Cole on April 27, 2011 at 3:46 amHi, I’m getting out of memory errors when rendering in MS HDP.
It’s a 3 minute 1920×1080 project, a mix of Canon 5d2 footage and stills, a music track, and some titles.
I’m rendering to mpeg2, default 1080 settings, and it says memory low, close other apps
I have a 3.4ghz Sandy Bridge i7 with 16gb ram, and it’s showing almost all of it free when I get these errors.
Any help is greatly appreciated, this is killing me, I have to get this rendered.
Thanks,

I am repeating myself, but here’s my abbreviated canned reply on memory:
Low Memory or Out of Memory does not mean “Not enough RAM”, though adding RAM can sometimes fix a “Low Memory” waning. A “Low Memory” warning usually means that you have exceeded your commit limit. You need either a bigger page file, more physical memory, or both.
For more information, see https://support.microsoft.com/kb/237740 and https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2267427
You can also reduce the Ram Preview size. If you don’t use RAM preview (Shift-B), then the memory set-aside for ram preview can’t be used for rendering or encoding.

April 27, 2011 at 6:18 amAs I stated I have 16gb ram and it’s hardly using any of it, my page is set by Windows at the moment to be 24gb, so I don’t see how what you’re saying applies. Task manager shows 13.7gb of available memory when I open the project, and now I’m getting memory warning upon opening it.

April 27, 2011 at 7:32 amLooks like a memory leak or deficient error handling.
I have the same issue with MainConcept MP4 encoder on Vegas Pro 9
Here is how to recreate the bug;Render any video as MP4 using MainConcept AVC/AAC encoder.
Choose Apple IPod 320×240 template and open Custom panel.
Set Frame Rate to 15,
Set Constant Bit Rate to 192.000Try rendering it and you should have a `low memory` warning.

April 27, 2011 at 7:42 amA point to consider is that MS is a 32 bit app and therefore limited to a maximum 4GB of memory no matter what Windows/RAM combination you have.

April 27, 2011 at 4:57 pmIf you’re using XP, apparently it only allows a maximum of 2gb of memory per program.

April 27, 2011 at 5:06 pmI’m using Windows 7 64. It’s only showing that the program is using 900mb of 16gb of ram when the file in question is rendering, and that overall 13.7gb is available. I’m getting this msg
