Hey guys, yet another question I’ve been digging around on. I’m taking classes at community college in video editing but they only offer class in FCP.

We learned a cool feature, FCP converts all files to an easily usable format before editing them, in their log and transfer (import of video files). I’m trying to figure out how to make sony vegas do the same.

I’m working with .WMV, .MTS, .MPG, and .AVI files in current my project. Vegas & my computer bogs down on most files. But does really like .AVI (assuming it’s less compressed). It would be nice if I could figure out how to import media and convert it to a more edit friendly format at the same time. Does vegas have any such feature?

    Thanks!!!!

The equivalent digital intermediary format for Vegas Pro is CineForm AVI. Unfortunately, Sony stopped including CineForm with Vegas Pro 9 so version 6 thru 8 have it, but from version 9 on, you need to buy it. I would take a look at CineForm NeoScene ($99 USD). Download the trial and see if you like it. The CineForm 422 files will edit quite smoothly in Vegas, just like Apple ProRes 422 does in FCP.
