Arm record to capture “what you hear” on computer
I used to be able to record what is playing on my computer, whether it be a media player of a website. I insert an audio track and arm it for record, then click record. I’ve tried all the audio devices in the preferences and nothing seem to work. Is this no longer possible with the state of digital rights, or do I need a special sound card? I’m using Vegas Pro 10.0c Thanks.

I have seen the “What you hear” on Sound Blaster cards. You can download a free virtual audio cable that will show up as an audio interface. Set Windows to output on it and Vegas to use it as an input

Nothing has changed as far as I know. You need to go into the Volume applet and enable the Stereo Mix (or whatever your sounds card calls it) as a valid recording input and then use it to record with. Same as it’s always been. This is not enabled by default.

Thanks guys. I dug a little deeper and found the setting. Went to Windows Volume Control, then “Options”, “Properties”, then in the “Adjust volume for” section I selected “Recording”. In there is a “What You Hear” that needed to be checked. Works great now, thanks!

Yea, some cards call it “What-U-Hear”, some call it “What You Hear”, some call it “Stereo Mix”, so every card is different which makes it hard to give specific directions. That’s why I directed you to the Volume control because it’s usually in the properties there. Glad you found it.
