Vegas 10c crashing in Windows 7 64bit
Posted by Cersei Lannister on March 13, 2011 at 8:47 pmHi all
I’m having a problem with Vegas.
No matter what I’m doing in it, it just keeps crashing after 5 or 10 minutes.
My computer specs are as follows
Asus P5Q Pro motherboard
8GB of DDR2 Corsair RAM
ATI HD 4870 Graphics Cardand of course…… Windows 7 64 Bit
I also have Windows 7 Codec pack installed. Could that be causing it? If so, are there any other codec packs you would recommend.
Thanks all

March 13, 2011 at 9:31 pmUninstall that codec pack you recently installed, clean up
the computer and restart….Now see if Vegas still crashes.I never recommend installing any Codec pack.

March 14, 2011 at 1:58 amI have Win 7 64 bits and Vegas 10 works OK. You don’t need any extra drivers.
Uninstall the driver package and see if it works. If not, that probably means that your driver pack broke Vegas drivers. Maybe you will need to uninstall and reinstall Vegas.

March 16, 2011 at 4:56 amMy Vegas crashes all the time as well on Win7 64bit. It’s really annoying. It worked fine forever for me on WinXP, but on this operating system it’s terrible. It seems most likely to crash if I do something too fast, like play, pause, then zoom, or save then play (kind of guessing here). And I’m even using Vegas 9… Oh ya and I’m using the 32bit version of the program because I heard 32bit plugins won’t work in 64bit Vegas.
System:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2.4ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L
RAM: Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 4gb
Video: XFX Geforce 7900gs 256mb pci-e
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

May 29, 2011 at 9:56 pm(Ok well apparently my last post never went through because I linked to a competing website. *rolls eyes* Time to retype the whole thing…)
My vegas was crashing a lot with one of my projects and I figured out 3 solutions:
1. Download CFF Explorer to enable the switch in the vegas exe file that allows it to access more than 2GB of memory.
Here‘s instructions (make backups first):
-Run CFF explorer and click File -> Open file. Navigate to c:Program Files (x86)SonyVegas Pro 9.0 (or any other incarnation you’ve got installed).
-In the Vegas folder, open vegas90.exe. In the column on the left, click on File Header under Nt Headers. Now look in the left column, but left corner, and click the tab marked Click Here.
-In the pop-up menu check App can handle >2gb address space. Click OK.
2. Another thing I found is that the more files I had loaded in “Project Media” in Vegas, the higher the RAM usage was. So another solution is to remove any files you aren’t using from the project.
Make sure you “Remove from Project”, not just remove from current bin. Also be sure not to accidentally “remove from project and delete files” unless you’re absolutely sure you want the files gone from your hard drive.
To make is easier, you can select every file you have in your “Project Media” list, right-click and select “Remove from Project”, and it will warn you for each file that’s still in use on the timeline. (You should probably backup your vegas project beforehand though anyway.)
3. Since both of these solutions are RAM-related, another good solution could be to simply buy more RAM.
If you’re using a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only use about 4GB of RAM, but if you’re on 64-bit the limit is over 100GB. Although supposedly some versions of Windows have (artificial) limits on memory. You can check this link to see if they apply to you (X86 means 32-bit, X64 means 64-bit): https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

June 29, 2011 at 7:13 amI have the same issue.
Windows 7 64 Bit Full fresh clean install.
Sony Vegas 10 Pro Full Clean Install.
Always crashes with in 1 to 5 minutes. It will lock while playing the time-line, and if I wait 5 minutes it will come back only to freeze and lock again in 1 to 2 minutes. Editing AVI captured straight from a DVX100B to a G-RAID fire 800 drive.
System Specs
Windows 7 Premium 64 BIT (Full clean install on new 1TB WD drive)
Nvidia 8800GTS OC (640MB)
8GB of RipJaw Ram (4GBX4GB)
Intel I-5 CPU
Intel MBThe only other software installed is Photoshop and DVD Arch.
If I switch to my seperate XP hard drive on the same system it runs perfect.

June 29, 2011 at 10:59 amVegas 10 PRO crashed constantly with my Windows 7 64 Bit with 8GB of ram. Once I removed one stick of ram and took my system down to 4GB it ran perfect. There seems to be some sort of addressing issue with the Ram. I tested both sticks of ram and it works fine as long as only one 4gb stick is used.
I’m using RipJaws Ram by G.Skill DDR3 – 1333 PC3
with a 1.5V and a timing of 9-9-9-24 in an Intel Motherboard running an I-5 CPU.Any ideas?

July 28, 2011 at 5:55 amPROBLEM FIXED!
BAD RAM! My 8GB of G.Skill Ram was bad. Had to RMA it.
Installed 16GB or Corsair XMS3 and it runs great with no issues so far!
I don’t remember who said it could be the ram, but THANKS!
