    A couple issues I’m running into…

When I load an avi file into Vegas and play it, the audio isn’t coming through at all, but does with any other file I’m using. Is there a codec or plugin I’m missing?

I’ve tried converting the avi to another file type, which works, but the quality of the video is then severely lowered.

    Any ideas?

Yes, that’s usually a codec problem. You can use a free utility called GSpot that will tell you what codec a file uses and if it is installed or not. Here is a sample to help you interpret what GSpot is telling you:

Find the codec that you need and install it. DO NOT install a codec-pak like K-lite to try and solve this. If you only need one codec, just install that codec.

Where did the AVI file come from?
    Camcorder, digital still camera, etc.?
