1HR 50 MIN HD video edited in Vegas Pro 9 with chapter markers. Rendered for transfer to Architect. Made menu and attempted to make dual layer DVD. After 6 hours processing it asked me to put in a marker for a layer break. I added the marker in Architect and continued with the processing and burning of DVD. In placing completed disc in my Sony DVD player the menu has been upset by the insertion of the additional marker and nothing will play beyond the additional marker.

Any assistance would be appreciated please

    Hi Roger,

Not sure if you saw the responses to the original post you made in:

This new post does answer one of my questions regarding what kind of player you tried the disc on. Have you tried it in your PC’s DVD drive, and does the same issue happen? If you could test it in another standalone DVD player, that would be great. Some DVD players, particularly older ones, do not play DVDRs well (or at all in some cases), which is why it might be a good idea to check it in more than one player.

When you say the menu has been upset, what do you mean specifically? Are the chapters off by one, after the new marker? if so, that’s because DVDA reads chapter points in the order the exist. So, if you have have 6 chapters in a menu, but you inserted a 7th chapter within those 6, anything after the new chapter point, will be off by 1.

To correct this, you would have to go into your menus, select/highlight the first chapter in error, then go to the ‘Button Properties’ panel, click on the ‘Action’ tab, and choose the correct link from the ‘Destination Chapter’ pull-down menu. Do this for each chapter selection that is not linking to the proper place within the movie.

Also, DVDA auto-inserts a 1st chapter at the head of each movie file, so unless the first chapter in your first menu is supposed to go to the exact beginning of the film, you would change it from ‘1:Scene/Chapter’ to ‘2:Scene/Chapter’.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for your comments Deirdre. I have started down the single layer path and it is processing at the moment. My Sony HXD970 DVD player/recorder is only 3 years old and I have previously played home made dual layer discs without problem but they were made with different software on a different computer. On my previous system it was not necessary for me to put in a chapter point to change layer and my menus made in Ulead were not affected. It seems that Architect is rather ‘backwards’ by comparison? Not being too bright I find it challenging enough to do just the basics. Yes it did work on a Blu ray player but I wont hear anything against the Sony as it’s always played my home made discs, dual layer included, without problem. Best wishes, and I look forward to your help again in the future – Roger
