    Hello,

Would like to know the differences between rendering with QuickTime (.mov) using Animation vs PNG video format. I see that Animation has the Keyframe every (frames) item checked; with PNG it is disabled.

    a. is the quality of the resulting video identical?
    b. what are conditions when Animation is preferred?
    c. … when PNG is preferred?

    Thanks in advance,
    – tyson

Animation and PNG are just different compression formats. Both are lossless codecs. Animation will produce a slightly smaller file. I use Animation for all of my alpha channel work between After Effects and Vegas Pro without any issues.

    Thanks John.

Would this also be an acceptable way to shorten render times? Ie, render (a portion) to .mov and use that in lieu of the original content in the parent .veg file? Any downsides (loss of video quality)?

Yea, I do that all the time. In the training videos I do for Boris TV I make an opening title that I render to Quicktime Animation and drop it into my master project so that I don’t have to wait for it to render every time. Works great.

Is there anything special about Animation rendering? There’s no documentation that I’m aware of on it…Just create my title sequence and render it in Animation?

[Alf Hanna] “Is there anything special about Animation rendering?”

As the name implies, it’s a codec specifically designed to encode computer generated animation which is what titles are. So it’s perfect for the job.
