I tried a number of options, but neither of them had satisfactory results. What would you recommend?

Have you tried MPEG Streamclip (https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html) or Cineform’s “Neo Scene”? I tried MPEG Streamclip a while ago and didn’t like it, but liked Neo Scene. If you are using Vegas Pro 10 you might not actually need to transcode at all. I no longer use Cineform now that I am using v10.
