vegas pro 10 stops and shuts down often
Posted by Steve Brandt on February 12, 2011 at 1:43 amHi all, I just started with vegas pro 10 about two weeks ago. I have used acid pro for about 5 years. I’m having alot of error messages, input output errors, won’t complete a rendering or a dvd and a vegas stopped message and then shuts down a lot. I tried to install vaast and it wouldn’t install because it said I don’t have Vegas pro on my computer. I know it must be operator error or not enough computer. I have an i3 which I want to upgrade. 8 gigs ram and solid state 120 gig dedicated hard drive. I’m not doing much heavy effects. I’m doing hd video with my new Zoom q3hd. I want to be able to use Vegas pro because I loved acid pro for my music so much. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

February 12, 2011 at 3:58 amYour computer is probably OK for HDV or AVCHD, but what specific errors are you getting? “Program XYZ Stopped…” is a Windows error. What version of Windows are you using. (And if you say “Vista, you’re only asking for trouble). 32- or 64-bit?

February 12, 2011 at 4:28 amHi Stephen, It’s windows 7 64bit. Vegas pro has stopped. Period. I am sure someone has gotten this notice. It happens at any givin time and under different situations.

February 12, 2011 at 2:29 pmAs I stated above, this is a Windows error.
Some things to try:
In a cmd window, run “sfc /scannow” to check for system file problems.
Turn UAC off completely.
If you are using Norton Antivirus, you have my condolences.
Make sure you have all the latest Windows Updates. (What can it hurt?)
I found these elsewhere, so I take no credit nor responsibility:
start regedit
navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions
rename MachineThrottling to _MachineThrottlingLast thing to try – disable the error message. Your application may fail anyway, but just maybe, disabling the error message will provide more clues as Windows crashes.
This is NOT recommended nor tested:

February 12, 2011 at 4:04 pmOne audio pluggin. BBE’s sonic maximizer sweet. It’s a VST pluggin.
I could try not using it. -

February 12, 2011 at 4:29 pmThanks Steve. No integrity problems with the results of the scan. I did turn off UAC and I have no Norton(I learned for myself about hungry Norton along time ago). I had tried rendering after disconnecting from internet and then turning off my virus protection (Panda Cloud) with no luck. I will also turn off my BBE sonic maximizer audio pluggin today and try rendering again. With latest windows update. If that doesn’t work, I’ll get into the hokey key tomorrow. Thank you so much for trying to help.

February 13, 2011 at 10:12 amIt’s worth the try. I’ve had some plug-ins that I had to quit using because of the same problem.

February 13, 2011 at 4:57 pmOK, I tried it with the changes and no luck. I got this message when Rendering. An error occurred while creating the media file Doug’s engage party .mpg
The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications
The camera I am using does mov. files. So I’m converting from that to mpeg2 for DVD. But it doesn’t matter what I am converting to it’s still the same. These are long. About 8 gigs being rendered.
I can do short 5 or 10 minute videos, but still have error problems with Vegas stopped messages while editing and trimming or ever changing the volume.
I do have quicktime ver. 7.6.9 (1680.9). Should I buy quicktime pro. or should I adjust something in QT preferences?I will try the futher suggestions from Stephen Mann next.

February 13, 2011 at 6:24 pmSteve, I’m no expert, others here can be a better help. One question, Do you have the 64 bit version of Vegas installed?

February 13, 2011 at 10:29 pmYes I do have 64bit Vegas and Windows.
And Steve Mann, when I get to hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\sqmclient\windows\disabledsessions, there is no machine throttling. Only (Default) REG_SZ value not set. Does anyone think reinstalling windows could fix the problem, if it is a window problem.
Thanks Steve Brandt
