Black Preview Screen in Sony Vegas pro 9.0, downgraded Quicktime still problems.
Hi!
Yet again have i encoured another problem in Sony Vegas… The black preview window when editing MOV. files.
First when i downgraded to Quicktime 7.5 it worked and let me edit for some time. Later on when I was almost finished with the entire project the same black preview window occured..Now after a couple of hours of downgrading and updating quicktime, installing all diffrent kinds of codecs the problem still remains….
Im using the 64-bit version of Sony Vegas pro 9.0, I have 8 gb RAM. The Codec my mov. files use: AVC1 (h264)…
Help please! Need this project finished as soon as possible!

The latest Vegas Pro 9.0e should allow you to use the latest QuickTime 7.6.9 without any problems so there is no need to downgrade. In fact, not using the latest version of QuickTime might actually be your problem.

That’s odd. Have you tried the 32-bit version of Vegas? or more importantly, did you install the 64-bit version of QuickTime?

Yes I’ve tried the 32 bit version but I have’nt tried the 64 bit quicktime! Will do so now 🙂

nope didnt work… the project wont even load… gets stuck on 5%..

Try to do a restore back before you installed all these codecs and try again, without doing this as it could be the source of a lot of your current problems.

Okej, I figured out what the problem is… Sony Vegas pro 9.0 cant handle the large amout of video files i put inte to the project.. as soon as the FileIOSurrogate.exe process goes over 1 gig the preview window stops working.. so untill im able to get a new editing program im going to have to render these files as uncompressed avi’s.
But when i try to do this.. some random videoclips are missing everytime.. -
I had that problem some time ago. Try to close Vegas, locate the file of the clip that goes black and delete the *.sfk file that Vegas creates after putting a file onto the timeline. Load the project once again and see if the clip is still black in your preview window.
It might work for you or not.

Another possible solution: In the Preview Window, click on the “Split Screen View” (upper toolbar, to the left of where you select the quality of the preview image), and make sure that “FX Bypassed” is selected. I tried reinstalling Quicktime, reinstalling earlier versions of Quicktime, deleting SFK files…nothing worked but this.
