Hello I have a quick question. I am making a montage using sony vegas pro 10. Im using around 20 HD clips recorded from my xbox and edited it into a 4 min montage. My first question is when i get near the end of editing around 3 min vegas starts randomly not responding, then will sht down. When i try to re open the project it goes back to not responding before i can do anything. When i open the task manager vegas is using about 80% of my CPU and tons of memory. If i open the project enough eventually it will not crash. Then when i go to render in hp (mp4) it gets to about 4% then just stops. Then i took some effects and transitions out and i got it to 17%. But it wont render completely. I have a i3 with 6gb RAM and using windows 7. Im not sure if i have 32 bit or 64 bit of vegas? But im noticing in the task manager when vegas gets around 800,000 memory it shuts down. Any suggestions?

What format are the source clips? It sounds like it might be a format that doesn’t edit very easily.

They were mp4 clips.. the video project settings are NTSC DV.. what would be the equivalent rending setting in vegas because im not really finding the exact settings they put in the email. they pretty much want broadcast quality sent to them

[Steve Rogers] “They were mp4 clips.. the video project settings are NTSC DV”

Why is your project set to NTSC DV if your clips are HD and you are rendering to HD?

How are you capturing from the Xbox?

What resolution (width and height) are these HD clips?

What version of Sony Vegas are you using? Movie Studio? Pro? 9, 10?

The video clips mp4’s 720 x 480 SD they are music video clips from a record pool (im a DJ doin video music video) i have audio remixes and have put the video clips over the audio. what i am trying to do is get involve with the one of the pools that distributes these videos over the net.. and these were there setting for submission. just trying to get as close as possible to there specs..

Well it sounds like the mp4 format you are using doesn’t agree with Vegas. You might try and convert them DV AVI files since they are already 720 x 480 SD. This will edit smoother and render properly. Try a few and see.

actually my clips im working with are mp4 and im getting them in full 1080×720 HD off of a PVR off of my xbox. It edits easily at first but after adding more and more effects it starts to slow down then eventually just starts saying vegas is not responding. I have the 32 bit version of vegas so could upgrading to the 64 bit help? and also i have an intel i3 540 processor. and i dont think its the best processor for editing in HD?

Is that the Hauppauge HD PVR? Are you capturing as XBOX mode? because if you are… that’s your problem. Try capturing in AVCHD mode.

The Core i3 is not a processor I would use to edit highly compressed mp4 files. This is why I suggested that you convert them to something that’s easier to edit. It could be that all the FX combined with the mp4 file is just too much for your CPU to handle. You really should have a Core i7 for video editing of mp4.

OK, so let me explain. That setting is for the target device that you want to play back on. So by using that setting you are recording files that will be compatible with playing back on an Xbox. Unfortunately, you are not playing them back on an Xbox. You are playing them back on a PC and so you should re-record all of your videos (and any future videos) using the AVCHD format which will play back smoother on the PC.
