I’m working with DV clips (720×480) including some DV widescreen (720×480), however I have some B-roll that is HD (1440×1080) that I’d like to integrate.

I rendered the combined clips to DV widescreen, but was not pleased with the results using various rendering formats(some clips were stretched, some squished). I noticed the source clips had different pixel ratios (1x.9, 1×1.2, 1×1.33) which would seem to explain why there would be a size change when rendering to a single output format (i.e for DV widescreen output, the DV source is stretched from 1x.9 to 1×1.2 and the HD clips seem squished).

I can handle the DV and the widescreen using colored letterboxing, however I’m puzzeled how to bring in the HD (1×1.33 ratio) and output to a DV widescreen format and still maintain the perspective (i.e., no squishing).

    Any guidence is appreciated.

    That is odd.

Try making sure your project setting are really set for your desired output. Then when rendering check the box on the settings – use preject settings.

Dont check any of the other boxes…give it a run

[Tom Keane] “I can handle the DV and the widescreen using colored letterboxing, however I’m puzzeled how to bring in the HD (1×1.33 ratio) and output to a DV widescreen format and still maintain the perspective (i.e., no squishing).”

Make sure your project properties are set to DV Widescreen.
Drop the HD clip on the timeline, open up Pan/Crop and select “Match Output Aspect”.
This will zoom in and crop the clip to the output format size.
Once this is done, you can leave it alone or zoom out and use colored letterboxing like you did with the other clips if you want to see the entire image.

Thanks, guys. Initial tests look fine. Appreciate the help.
