Masking Problems
Until recently, I’ve been fine with doing video in Vegas but one day I opened it and suddenly loads of things were all wrong when I started trying to edit clips (and I’ve used the clips before so I know they work correctly).
The following are happening now:
– When opening Video Pan/Crop – the image shown in the window is out of sync with the image shown in the preview.
– When masking, it takes several seconds after the mask for it to actually change in the preview – meaning even though my masking is correctly timed, it still takes several seconds to catch up in the preview
– And thirdly, when going through the video timeline – the preview is always one key marker behind.
I can only assume I’ve changed some settings since these problems have only just occured and all at once… Because of this I can’t mask at all.Sorry if the explanation is alittle diffcult to understand – it’s difficult to explain aswell you see. :|Z

It seems that your PC is are out of resources.
Have you installed lately any application that is running in the background, changed the antivirus, or changed some hardware parts?

I haven’t installed any applications and although I had iTunes and Internet Explorer open at some of same times as Vegas, I’m quite confident those two would cause no problems since I’ve had the three open at the same time many many times before with no problems.
EDIT: Actually, looking at my list of programmes installed, it says I have Windows Silverlight – installed on the 5th however I don’t recall installing it. 😐
Could this be the problem? It was yesterday that the Vegas started having problems so it’s possible for the two to be linked… -

This could be a part of your problem.
My guess is that you have Windows set to auto-update which is why you don’t remember installing it.
I always disable that feature on any new computer I get as I want to be the one who determines what gets installed (critical updates only) on my machine. -
Maybe Silverlight is not the problem, considering that it is not running in the background all the time.
If you have not installed new software and not installed new hardware, maybe you should check for hard drive performance degradation.
Hard drive performance degradates with use. Check if you hard drive available space is less than 30%. Defragment it and check for disk errors.

Thanks – I just checked and yes, there is just less than 30% available. I’ll defrag it now.

Use Windows Disk Defragmenter to pack the disk.
Backup the biggest files on your disk to another location.
Decide whether to delete the programs you don’t use anymore using the Control Panel’s “Add or Remove Programs utility.”
You may decide you just need a bigger drive. In that case a new hard disk is the thing to get

Thank you, I’ll try the suggested things.
Do you know if this will fix all the problems in Vegas for current projects? Or only on new projects I start from after the problem is fixed…

I believe that if the disk performance degradation is the only cause of Vegas problems, and you fix it, then all your projects should work fine.
