I had posted twice about Beta SP workflow in Vegas and with Blackmagic Intensity…does anyone have any input to my questions?

I am a little new to Beta SP and have been using Vegas for about 10 years now. I need to fly in Beta footage from my Sony BVW-1800 through my Blackmagic Intensity card (I just received the card for Christmas). In the past I used my FX1 and s-video or composite right into Vegas with no issus. I BELIEVE it should be pretty straightforward using Component outs of the SP machine into BM component, into Vegas. Correct?
What I also NEED help with is outputting TO the SP machine. I have been checking on forums and SYNC issues seem to be somewhat of a problem going from NLE to Beta and want to know if I will need to get a Black Signal generator (like the Sigma BSG-26N), or if there is another way that the Beta deck can get sync from the BM Intensity card.
Also, I am expecting to need to do some TV spots in Vegas and send them out to the SP machine as well, what format should I render to in Vegas and should I use the print to tape function as to export to the Beta desk?
Anything I might be missing otherwise? IRE, etc?

I haven’t been ignoring you, I’m just not familiar with the workflow as I don’t use Beta SP. Sorry. Perhaps someone will see this that is familiar and they can help.

You can, however, take a look at these links (I know at least one of them is yours) from these google results.

Yea I haven’t been ignoring you either. I just never worked with BetaSP. You might want to try the Blackmagic Design forum since I assume that people who are buying that card are more likely to know the various workflows.

Thanks all!!! I have checked on the Blackmagic Design as well as numerous others for this workflow…I had hoped someone here had worked with this before me….I THINK I have my mind wrapped around it, but better to hear from someone else that has the knowhow ahead of time!! My rack mount case comes in tomorrow and I will be assembling everything in the next several days, so I will check back on this subject…thanks again!!

Be sure to let us know what you figure out so that if someone else comes along with the same issue, you would have answered it already 🙂

I’ll give it a try. I have the Intensity Shuttle. I cannot use it as a Windows secondary desktop display, but Vegas does, as well as CS5 Premiere and After Effects. If you can render your video to a CPU friendly format where one of these three programs will play it back at full framerate, you can record the component out back into the Beta deck. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

Thanks Danny, the two main things I need to know about are what format to render to in Vegas, (and if I then use the print to tape function to send it out). I believe that is the proper way.
The second is if I will need a sync generator for the Beta deck, or if I can use one of the Y out to the sync in on the deck with the BM Intensity. I would love to know if I need to get a black sync box before I NEED to print out to Beta

    Thanks again all!!

The Vegas print to tape function is for exporting back to a DV or HDV camcorder via firewire. What you need as a way to play the video at the same res and framerate, high quality, in a format that your Beta deck records with. If that it SD, and you captured it as that with Media Express, Media Express will play it back through the specified output selected in your Blackmagic control panel. The Shuttle plays anything playing in Media Express out of all the outputs. You may need to select which output your BM card plays out of in your BM control panel.
