  AVCHD in Sony DVD Architect Studio 5.0

  I’ve read through what seems like a million threads on the subject of burning and AVCHD video from Sony DVD Architect Studio 5.0, but am getting nowhere. Hopefully, somebody can answer my question.

  Here is what I am working with:

  -Sony HDR-SR11 High Definition Video Camera
  -Sony Movie Studio HD Platinum with DVD Architect Studio 5.0
  -DVD Burner only
  -Panasonic BluRay Player attached to Panasonic Plasma HDTV

  I’ve been recording AVCHD files from my HD camera and storing them on my computer, but now have a BluRay player, and would like to burn AVCHD files in HD onto DVDs to play on the BluRay. I can do this through the Sony PMB (software that came with the camera) in an AVCHD disk burning procedure – works great, but with only simple menus. I was not able to do this under the previous version of DVDA Studio, but was led to believe that DVDA Studio 5.0 would be able to do this. So far, I am having no luck. Under the options I am burning to a BluRay disk to keep the HD settings (when I select DVD Disk, there are no HD settings available).

  What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have step by step directions on how to do this? What I want to do is burn the AVCHD files in a DVDA setup onto DVD while keeping the HD quality. I know there is less room with DVD, but I do not have a BluRay burner. It seems like people are accomplishing this somehow. Please let me know what to do.

  You should be able to create a blu ray disk set or .ISO on your hard drive from DVDA, then burn using another program to a DVD. https://www.cdburnerxp.se/ will burn .ISO’s to DVD’s, and blu rays and it’s free.

  Select File | New… (Ctrl+N) and in the New Project window select:

  Disc format: Blu-ray Disc
  Project video format: AVC 1920×1080-60i, 16:9
  Project audio format: PCM Stereo

  Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I am still having no luck. I keep getting a “Disc is incompatable” error on the Panasonic BluRay player. However, when I burn an AVCHD Disc from Sony PMB, it plays fine on the BR player using the same type of discs.

  There are two layouts for Blu-ray discs, BDAV and BDMV. Since writing the Blu-ray filesystem onto single layer DVD media is not part of the Blu-ray specification, it is not supported by all players. Some support it, while others don’t. I’m guessing that your player supports one of these and not the other which is why the AVCHD disc (BDAV) plays and the DVD Architect disc (BDMV) does not. The solution is to buy a Blu-ray burner and make real Blu-ray discs.
