  <1s time units on video track

  Ohhhhhhhhhhh!

  A cross dissolve of 1:24 is NOT 1.24 seconds, or even 1 and 24/60 seconds.

  It’s 1 second and 24 (of 30) FRAMES.

  THAT’s why there’s no such thing as 1:45. (which I was thinking would be 1 and 3/4 seconds).

  Funny, it’s so obvious now that I realize the video is running at 30fps.

  Took me 45 hours of editing over 2 months to see that…

  It gets worse because NTSC video does not run at 30fps. It runs at 29.97fps and broadcast uses Drop Frame timecode which actually drops some of the frames to correct for the fractions and get shows back on time.

  To see this, set your ruler to SMPTE Drop (29.97 Video) and place the timeline cursor at 00:00:59;29. Now advance the timeline cursor 1 frame. The new timecode is 00:01:00;02! Yup, three frames got added instead of one. Crazy stuff.
