Vegas Pro (9e) shows sound but I hear no sound
Hello All,
I have two HP Pavilion towers on which I use to edit video, each has a legal, licensed copy of Vegas Pro 9e installed. They have worked flawlessly delivering solid performance for the production of hundreds of clips.
Then, recently, I moved. Just down the street. I set up my towers in my new residence, I fire up Vegas Pro 9e on either of them, load a video file and when I play it in the timeline, I see there is sound playing, I see the waveform in the audio track…but I hear nothing. Render the clip, no sound.
Before you say anything, here’s the weird part:
The towers WORKED perfectly prior to the move, in fact, my last project was a massive 3-day editing binge in which I produced 47 clips.
I tried these exact same video files on my laptop, also VP 9e-equipped, and I HEAR SOUND. I can render the clip…AND IT HAS SOUND. Downside is, the Lappy is not the ideal machine for video work, and I use it for my web development.
I CHANGED NOTHING on the towers. Just put them in the truck and drove them from my old residence to my new one. Video files, everything else is the SAME.
And one tower is System 7, one is XP Pro SP3, and the Lappy is XP Pro SP3 (and it’s the only one that works).
While on the road last week, I borrowed an older Dell PC tower and installed the trial version of Vegas Pro 9 on it, also an XP Pro SP3 machine. Guess what? I got sound both on the timeline and on the rendered clip of the SAME files that will not play on my two towers at home on which I have this problem, the ones which used to work.
The speakers on my towers work fine. It’s JUST in Vegas Pro 9e that I have this problem.
This has to be some weird, simple thing that can be fixed. I’m a coder also so I know how one small thing that is easy to overlook can stop development dead in its tracks.
A little background, I have been editing using Sony Vegas Pro 9 for over a year and change, most of the editing taking place on these two towers that have now gone problematic on me. I LOVE Sony Vegas, it works perfect for me and it is fast. Likewise, HP towers have given me the best reliability. I’m just stymied by this odd problem.
Thus, as this is part of my livelihood, I am crippled until I can fix this.
Any ideas would be warmly received. I am grateful to have found this forum here on Creative Cow.
Thank you in advance!
Sincerely,
Keith Henderson
