  • Renaming clips & displaying thumbnails in Windows

I have imported my first HD files from my camcorder HDR-XR550 & trimmed all of the clips I wish to retain by using the PMB software provided. I’m surprised that the program apparently doesn’t allow for renaming your clips into something more meaningful than just a long number.

What is the best way to rename clips into something useful? I had thought I might have been able to rename them using Windows XP but it seems that Windows doesn’t even provide thumbnails for these clips Is this normal or is there something that I can do to display them in Windows?

    Thanks in advance

Irfanview has been in my toolchest for many years now. Try it – you ARE going to like it, I promise:

Keep in mind that in the future if you get windows7, it will view and batch rename files.
I can’t figure how PMB names files in the first place. The numbering doesn’t make sense at all to me. I do like the quality that PMB can convert video into stills. Much better than using Vegas even when setting Vegas to the highest preview quality and enlarging the picture in vegas.

And is there any to get either Windows XP or 7 to display the M2TS thumbnails?

    Thanks in advance

I have a friend who has these same problems but he is using Windows 7. He is seeing thumbnails in Windows Explorer OK for M2TS files presumably because he has PMB installed.

Another program that allows you to bulk rename files very quickly & easily is FreeCommander which is basically a smart version of Windows Explorer but can display 2 explorer screens at once & allows you to do bulk rename & if necessary move files.

It seams that then PMB imports clips from your camcorder it also creates MODD files for each clip. The problem is that we don’t know what the MODD files are for & if they have to be renamed as well. Does anyone know? Can the MODD files be ignored or deleted without consequences?

    Thanks in advance
