  • serious Vegas 10 keyframe issue

I’ve been working on a very keyframe-intensive project in Vegas Pro 10 64 bit, and everything was fine yesterday. Today, suddenly, my keyframes don’t work. Same problem on event or track level. I set the keyframe paramenters, go down the timeline, create a new keyframe, change parameters. Both keyframes have the new settings, at least visually in the preview window. In other words I see no change. However, when I scrub the keyframe timeline, I see the values changing in the fields in the plug-in dialog box. As it stands I can’t keyframe anything in Vegas 10. This is not a keyframe selection issue, and it’s the same with 2 or 10 keyframes.

    I have tried:
    reinstalling Vegas 10 64 bit
trying the same behavior on Vegas 10 32 bit (same exact result)
Restoring to a system restore from one week ago.

I also tried Vegas 9, and keyframes are fine as they should be. However, I can’t of course open my current project in Vegas 9.

I note that when I right click a keyframe to change the interpolation (all mine are “linear”) I see “linear fade” after the options in Vegas 10 whereas the options in Vegas 9 don’t have “fade” in the interpolation option. Can someone with Vegas 10 confirm that this is as it should be in Vegas 10?

I would appreciate any help with this.

    Thanks,

    Mary,

How many tracks are in your project? How many of these are keyframed. What are the keyframes on?

If you can open Vegas 9 and Vegas 10 side by side, I think I can help you transfer your project to 9.

Thanks Jeff, there are only about 6 tracks. Most of the keyframing is on just one of the tracks. I didn’t think you could copy keyframes from Vegas 10 to 9. Is that what you are thinking? I know how to copy between open projects.

    Mary,

Give it a shot, at this point you don’t have too much to lose. I always create a keyframe on the very first frame of an event. When I copy a group of keyframes I past them on the first frame of the copied to event, and everything lines up just right. Just make sure your the length of each event matches or the excess keyframes get stacked at the end of the event.

If I want to use Vegas 9 instead of 10, I’ll have to start over from scratch. The only media that copies from 10 to 9 projects is generated media and still images. The only keyframes that copy are track motion keyframes, which, I note, have the Vegas 9 look and feel. Track and event plug in keyframes don’t copy over, and neither do the video files I was working with. Thanks for your thoughts – I’m hoping to get some help from this on Sony.

Vegas 10 has been a huge disappointment so far.

    Thanks.

    Mary,

I’m sorry you have been disappointed. It has been great for me. I hope there’s not a problem waiting to surface. Are you running Windows 7?
Keep me posted on the outcome.

Yes, Windows 7. I managed to get the project finished in Vegas 10 because I realized the preview bug only happens when scrubbing in the keyframing timeline, so it was a little more work but I could go back and forth between the main time line and keyframe timeline and it all worked out.

The basic problem is still there however. I also had another weird problem in 10 where every time I open the project once clip is mysteriously replaced by another. I’m hoping for a 10 update soon.

    thanks again.
