One of the posts here just stated hyperthreating reduces performances by 25%. I googled it and people are saying gaming is negatily effected with hyperthreaded on an i7. Anyone know if this is really true for Vegas Pro?

There is something to it. I wouldn’t put a percent on it. It depends on your mobo architecture, OS, and which codec is in question. Most MPG-2 codecs get hyper-threading right. I would be willing to bet that all the AVC codecs score well with hyper-threading enabled.

Here is an older article that lays it out well:

I am not an expert on this, but only know what I read. Maximum PC was talking about the upcoming 8 core AMD Bulldozer architecture, and how its new ‘paired’ core structure (or whatever they called it) is supposed to be 50 percent faster than Intel’s hyperthreading.

From what they were saying, Bulldozer is supposed to be a completely new architecture, with a lot of promise. I also wonder how it will work with Vegas Pro.

Now if only AMD’s video cards had CUDA cores….
