Sony imports .mov Incorrectly. (cut off video)
Hi, I have a following issue with Sony Vegas 8
When I import .mov video, shot with the Kodak Zx3 1080p camcorder, about 3 – 4 seconds of the video in the beginning gets cut off when I drag the video on the time line, also in the end of the video (on the time line) the frame that is supposed to be the last one becomes a stop frame for the same amount to time as the cut off part.
I can normally watch the video with any player installed on my OS.

Al thou a strange thing happens. When I convert the video to MP4 using Mpeg Streamline, Vegas accepts it normally with no problem. I just don`t know whether I should keep converting all my recording to mp4.
I guess I could convert them with no compression, but then another questions comes up – what are the lossless quality settings for converting?

If converting to MP4 is working for you then I would continue to do that. You have so many codec paks on your system it would be difficult to say what is going on that’s causing this.

Oh, I guess I will do the converting. But what setting should I use to convert the video without quality loss.

The only way to get no quality loss is to render uncompressed or to use a lossless codec. MPEG4 does not support either of those. MPEG4 by it’s very nature uses lossy compression.
If you want lossless you could render to AVI using uncompressed or the Huffyuv or Lagarith codecs. Both are free and both are lossless.

Oh, well jsut to clarify something about these Huffyuv or Lagarith codecs. So After I download one of these codecs, they should be available in the list of my converter? (and supposedly after I export the video in these codecs, Sony will see them with no problem)

Yes, I’ve had better luck with Lagarith showing up so I would try that first. In Vegas it will show up under the video formats in the AVI templates.

I have just installed the Lagarith. Well it doesn’t show up in the Mpeg Stream Clip converter. (But I didn’t restart the computer… let me to it now..)
Maybe you use a different software for converting. Could you suggest anything good. Freeware (if not good solutions then maybe the ones that you have to pay for.)

Sorry for my lack of knowledge about this. I have installed both plug-ins (both 32bit). And as I mentioned, I used Mpeg Streamclip 1.2 to convert the files from .mov to .avi and I didn’t find a Lagarith or Huffyuv option anywhere.
Maybe I’m using an incompatible converter. I really don’t know the reason.

I use AviDemux when I need to do conversions outside of Vegas. It should see either Huffyuv or Lagarith (I forget which). It also renders to M-JPEG which is not lossless but is very high quality with files that are much smaller.
