Vegas 10.0 is a $138 brick until the Cineform Intermediate Codec is fixed. The testing I did right now is a showstopper for my AVCHD workflow.

    1) Cineform files created in version 8.0c re-compress in version 10, they do NOT in version 8.

    2) Files converted to Cineform intermediate using a trial version of Cineform Neoscene 5.2.1 re-compresses on both 8.0c and 10.0 — !OUCH!

    3) The Cineform codec was FREE with version 8 and as I understand 9 as well. It’s removed entirely in version 10. Those that loved the codec for AVCHD workflow are left paying nearly as much for codec support as they did to upgrade to Vegas 10 AND IT DOESN’T EVEN WORK IN VEGAS 10.0, NOR 8.0 for that matter.

Cineform files rendered in 10.0 don’t recompress when placed on the timeline, just those that are created using Cineform Neoscene.

[Bill Mash] “Cineform files rendered in 10.0 don’t recompress when placed on the timeline, just those that are created using Cineform Neoscene.”

The Cineform support for Vegas Pro 10.0 was completely redone to use the Cineform SDK instead of the older Video for Windows (VFW) interface. Unfortunately, Sony ran out of time and didn’t complete the implementation. This is why the configure button is grayed out. Because it is grayed out, you can’t select the quality, and because you can’t select the quality, Sony hard coded it to FilmScan! (the highest quality possible). I don’t believe that NeoScene supports FilmScan as an output quality which is why Vegas is recompressing Cineform files from NeoScene to bring them up to FilmScan quality.

You need to wait until Sony implements the Configure button so that we can all get back to using Cineform the way we are use to with NeoScene (medium quality).
