Sony Supermicro Vegas Pro Master Suite
Posted by Rachel Savage on October 21, 2010 at 6:23 amI hope this is not a stupid question (I am so use to two drives)(system and storage). Here is the question. I received my new turnkey computer and it is suppose to have 1 Tb system Drive and 1 Tb data drive (total of 2048 GB). Anyway, I went to my C: drive and I have only 1 TB (really 940 gb). Thats it. And on the d: drive it is a dvd rw, and on the e: drive it is a BD Re drive. In my mind am I missing 1 TB.
Am I correct.Rachel in Quebec

October 21, 2010 at 1:13 pmYes, you are correct.
According to the literature, all 3 master suites come with a 1 TB system drive and a 1 TB data drive.
Go back to your supplier and say “I think you forgot something important in my system”.
BTW, I’d also let Sony know that the vendor messed up as these systems come from the “Sony Vegas Pro Elite Dealer network” and this does not reflect well on them at all. -

October 21, 2010 at 2:25 pmBefore you go complaining, I would go into the Disk Management and make sure that the drive is simply not formatted.

October 21, 2010 at 2:30 pmMy guess would be it’s something as simple as a SATA cable that fell out during transit. If it doesn’t void the warranty I would open it up and check for a loose wire. If you don’t feel comfortable, a local computer store would probably look at it for $25 and tell you if there are two drives in there or not, and what’s wrong with it.

October 23, 2010 at 1:36 amThanks everybody. I called the place I bought it, and they said I misunderstood what I was buying. So I wrote emails all over the place. Finally I got a tech person at supermicro, who had a problem because he was not to familar with Windows 7. After a day or so, finally another tech figured it out. The drive was not initialized. As one person here mentioned – thanks.
Then Sony realized all the emails I wrote (everywhere since everyone was passing the buck around). And they are sending me a upgrade to the programs.
What a day. Thanks everyone.

Just curious… but why didn’t you check this first and save yourself a lot of trouble and emails?

October 23, 2010 at 11:29 pmWhat I saw in the computer was c:, d: and e: drive. But I did not see any storage drive – nothing. So I went into computer, manage etc and I tried to initialize – but I was using the letter F: and the computer would not recognize anything. Then I called and emailed around. Since it is a new computer I did not want to be blamed for anything.
Furthermore, the tech guy was confused because he did not know Windows 7. Anyway, if works by assigning the letter h:.

October 24, 2010 at 12:10 amAhh I see.. It was definitely a configuration problem on their part… I mean they should not have shipped it without initializing the drive. I’m shocked the Tech support person did not know Windows 7. I wonder if they just hired him from Apple or he’s been living up a rock for the last 2 years. lol. Glad to hear you got it working.

October 27, 2010 at 1:41 amAnother problem. I can not use the media manager in vegas or acid. Now I get the data base service failed to initialize (MSSQL$Sony_media mgr2).
Or I get:
you do not have permission or I get not enough priviledges.
Plus I have dealt with Sonys Tech, and he just keeps on telling me I don’t need to have it. It is optional. Or he said just go in the explorer window. He does not tell me how to get the media mgr2 – I guess there must be a lot of problems with it.
I have tried going through administration, removing and reinstalling both from the cd or from sonys site.
It is ashame to get a computer that is suppose to be up and running with no problems. This is why i got a turnkey – no stress.

You need to seriously file a complaint. If this is a turnkey Vegas system and Vegas doesn’t work I would ask them for a return authentication number because you are sending it back.
I think you got a lemon. Whoever built this machine didn’t format the data drive and didn’t install Vegas properly. I’m serious. Send it back and tell them you want another machine or your money back.

October 29, 2010 at 1:19 amI have been bounced around all over with sony and supermicro. Supermicro (Hardware) is saying it is not their problem, and sony is saying it is not their problem (software). Then I am told to contact my dealer, supermicro, sonycreativesoftware.com, sonymedia.com, and back to the sony tech guy. Finally the dealer is helping me. The computer is turnkey system and it has more problems that just the software, it is a system configuration error.
Hopefully, I will get a RMA.
