  Vegas hangs on Directx initialization

  I’ve reviewed the older messages on this subject and wanted to know if anyone has new suggestions. I have a new laptop (Win7 Pro) and tried installing Vegas 9, then Vegas 8 and the splash screen hangs on ‘initializing Directx’. I tried eliminating the startup programs to no avail. I went to MS website and installed all updated Directx software. This didn’t make any difference. Everything else works. I am able to run all other programs normally.
  This is frustrating because I bought the laptop specifically to run Vegas, and run it faster than my older machine!

  I solved my own issue and maybe this will help someone else.
  Right click on the vegas icon and choose “Troubleshoot compatibility”.
  You get two choices; choose the “Troubleshoot Program” option.
  You can then choose the version of Windows where Vegas worked for you. I picked XP SP3. Problem seems solved. No longer hangs on the Directx initialization.
