    Hello,

I live on the Oregon Coast, where it is very windy, and I have shot several pieces of footage with my Canon XH A1 high-def camcorder. I’m needing to use these shots for a film I am making, and there is vocal audio in the shots. Now, the voices never get completely covered by any sort of loud wind noises, but I was wondering if there was a way to cancel out the general atmospheric hissing from the wind in the background.

I have Sony Vegas Platinum 9.0, as well as After Effects CS3, Sound Forge Audio Studio 9.0, and Vegas Movie Studio 6.0. If any of these programs have the capability to do what I want to have done, please let me know.

    Thank you for your help!

Basically I just need a way to get rid of the whooshing sounds in the background and/or bring out the vocal audio, with as little distortion of the voices as possible. Thanks!

I use Waves X-Noise for that. Never tried it with wind though. If you can post a relatively short wave sample somewhere I can give it quick run through that plug and post it back.

    Download: adobe audition 3…

Trial for 30 days…has great filters….much easier to use vs. Sound forge…

    Hmmmm. . .

1] Just how much do you wish to remove? Less is More. Sometimes one doesn’t need to remove too much to be acceptable. Really think hard about this.

2] Is the piece got the speaker within the frame? You don’t say. If not then v/o could be a way out.

3] the major issue here will be that the noises will have some overlapping freqs & characteristics too similar to the voice that you’re gonna get unfortunate audio artefacts that are really gonna annoy you!

So, you are going to need to be a tad pragmatic about just how much removal you are going to feel is successful. But I’m guessing you knew this?

Having spent not a little time out in the open videoing, I now have a range of furry friends and a Blimp to filter out the wind.

    Grazie
