  • Rendering HD to WMV keeps failing

Posted by John Smith on October 12, 2010 at 4:07 pm

Please can someone help! I am in a bit of a panic as I am trying desperately to render an edited project from AVCHD files into 5 min WMV clips, but every time it fails when it reaches around 90% after an average of a 2 hour wait. It is so frustrating and time wasting for my business.

My computer is Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit, Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8500, 3.16ghz, 4gb RAM

So I was under the impression that I had an adequate editing pc.

The error I keep getting is the low on memory one, along with another random error that I had today too.

I have disabled as many programs as possible during rendering, along with setting the Dynamic Ram Preview Max to 0mb in Vegas Preferances, as suggested on this forum.

I am now worried, as I have a timescale to get the clips rendered for.

Can anyone advise on what I can do to stop this major problem?

    Thanks

See if you can you render to another format first (AVI, MXF?) and then render that to WMV.

Download the program below and use it prior to rendering.

My experience (Kinda long): I have a dual core 3.2ghz with 2mb of ram running Vegas 8.C and have been working with AVCHD for several months now. I have given up rendering direct to WMV as well as rendering any projects with AVCHD content greater than 90-seconds in length to any format. I place markers at 30/60/90 second intervals and render to AVI. I have a separate veggie file to render the final product. It’s a pain in the arse. It has one silver lining though in that changes are easier to implement as you fix the small section and re-render. Even then the AVCHD render process isn’t bullet proof with failures common. Logging on and off helps with memory leaks which I’m certain 8.C. has based on my observations, aka running out of memory and investigating.

Slightly off topic… these render failures are maddening in that 8.C. positively SUCKS at saving copies of your work that you can easily recover without loss when you restart the program. Sans every single solitary version of Vegas I have owned other than 8.C. I never and I do mean NEVER lost any work prior to 8.C. I’m beginning to force myself to hit save every time I render. Why Vegas doesn’t simply save a backup copy every time you render is beyond my comprehension. Off my soapbox:-)

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

I hate to say it…upgrade to 64bit and add a few gigs of ram…

If you are using sequences to put multiple effects together you will find that 2gigs – 32 bit limit per app. Is killing you. Your swap file is tanking on you…

Next time you render, hit the task manager…you\’ll see the memory surpass 2 gigs, if it does, you\’re in no mans land! Memory errors abound, I assure you….

    Even 4 gigs in 64 bit land makes a world-o diference…
