We got a new Sony camera (some little consumer one) that came with a free voucher for Vegas Movie Studio 10, which I ended up gifting to a friend of the company so he could edit a video for the web. I tried to give him some clips in MXF format but he says he’s getting an error. I’m just wondering if Movie Studio 10 even supports MXF to begin with. All I could find was a post by John in March but he didn’t know if it did or not. I know we’re all mainly using Pro but if anyone knows I’d appreciate it because Sony’s site is pretty unhelpful in this regard. Thanks

I gather the MXF files didn’t come from the camera you got with Vegas Movie Studio 10 as I don’t believe they would bundle the two together if you couldn’t open the files from the camera with it. MXF is just a container than have different types of files in it. I found a free utility to unwrap them for editing purposes.

Where did the mxf files come from?

No, Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 does not support Sony MXF. You cannot edit it nor render to it. This is a Pro feature only.

No the mxf files came from our EX-1’s, we just got this little camera as a backup and the boss wanted something with a swappable lens to play around with. John replied that movie studio 10 does not support mxf so I’ll give freemxf a try, thanks!
