I am using the demo of Production Assistant to try out a new workflow.
My Target Outputs are two MainConcept .mp4 files. One is 720×480, the other is 320×240. I am also using Image Overlay processing to add a 720×480 .png with an Alpha Channel. My project is a single video clip, sitting on the timeline. The source file is 720×480.

The issue is – the overlay sits on the 720 video just fine. However, it does not fit to the 320 video the proper way. Doing this manually, right clicking on the .png in the timeline. and un-checking “Maintain Aspect Ratio” will fix this issue. However, Production Assistant seems to default to a checked “Maintain Aspect Ratio”.

Is there any way to fix this?

If your source is 720×480, I’m guessing that it’s DV and doesn’t use square pixels and has a pixel aspect ratio of 0.9091. That means in square pixels it’s really 655×480. If your image is 720×480 it is the wrong dimensions because images use square pixels so your overlay doesn’t match your source. This could be what’s causing the problem since 320×240 is probably using a PAR of 1.0.

Try making your overlay 655×480 and it should fit better on both of your output resolutions.

John, that was exactly it. Thank you for lending a hand, as usual.

You’re welcome. When making any graphics for video, it’s important to understand that some videos use non-square pixels and the graphics needs to compensate for that. I’m glad that fixed it for you.
