I apologize if this has been answered already – I’ve searched using different terms without any luck.

I have Platinum Vegas, but I bought Pro, which should arrive any day now (yeah! more than 4 tracks! waveform/vectorscope! better color correction!).

I would like to apply the same pan/zoom effect with keyframes to different tracks of text. I have one track that has a large font and another with a smaller one. The smaller font fits up snugly under the larger one and I fade it up a few seconds after the large one. I can’t create this on one track in Platinum (maybe in Pro – can I make different boxes of text that I can put in different places on the screen in one track?) So I’ve just used 2 tracks. I can guesstimate and make them look close, but not the same. I know how to merge tracks, but that only gives me an extra track – it doesn’t solve the problem.

Is it possible to “lasso” multiple tracks and apply global track motion? Many thanks . . .

Apparently I put on my overthinking cap today. I put in all my effects except for the movement. Then I merged/rendered four tracks into one. Lastly, I added pan/zoom motion with keyframes to the one track to have ALL the text slowly get larger.

    Thanks anyway!

Actually Vegas Movie Studio 10 HD has 10 tracks but you’ll love the waveform monitor in Pro anyway. 😉

What you want to do (and Movie Studio HD 10 has this as well as Pro) is to use the Parent/Child Composite. Make the tracks children of a top track and then use the Parent Motion to move them in unison. Try it when you get your copy of Pro.

Here is a tutorial from my web site to try when Vegas Pro arrives:

John, thanks for the reply. I have Platinum 9, which only offers up to 4 video tracks and, I think, unlimited audio tracks.

The parent/child compositing tip sounds like a better way to go when you have unlimited tracks because you don’t have to render. Is there a parent effect as well as a parent motion?

Your tutorial looks helpful and that was one of the first things I wanted to do with Pro. I miss manipulation the “z” plane in Platinum.

    Thanks again.
