  • Switching Vegas HD Platinum interface language

Posted by Frederic Baumann on September 3, 2010 at 6:27 pm

    Hi,

I have a version of Vegas Platinum HD 10 installed on my machine, and all the menu, buttons and dialog boxes are in French (and that’s fine since I am French). I would like to switch the user interface to English, so I have several questions:

    0) is it possible if my Windows XP is in French?

    1) can I do this without uninstalling/reinstalling?

    2) I don’t remember what I did when I bought/installed the software: was the language defined once for ever when I bought the licence? (or do I have the licence for all available languages)

    3) can I select the software language during setup (I am not speaking of the language of the setup program, but of the language of Vegas itself) ?

Thanks for your help — if I could avoid reinstalling Vegas that would be great!

My guess is that you’ll need to uninstall the French version and install the English version.
Besides English & French, it’s available in 3 other languages.
Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 and click the drop-down box.

Many thanks Mike, this answers all my questions.

Unfortunately it means, I guess, that my licence for the French Vegas will not work for the English one.

Frédéric, I see no reason why it wouldn’t work.
My recommendation is to try it and see.
Worst case scenario is that you have to call Customer Service on Monday and explain the situation.

Yes, I agree, and I have just finshed downloading a trial version in English.

However, I have to save my rendering templates (and first to find where they are on the disk btw), plus all the other stuff I have customized so far, and to which I am not thinking any more, but which I might regret after the uninstall 🙂

Thanks again anyway for your support, that’s very nice to you,
    Frédéric

I found the way to change the language without having to reinstall.

    In RegEdit, go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    + SOFTWARE
    + Sony Creative Software
+ Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum (or other Vegas product)
    + 10.0 (or other version)
    + Lang

Then double clic on the “ULangID” key, and enter 0x409 for English (instead of 0x40c for French).

Frédéric, you’re a braver man than I am playing around with the registry but I’m glad to see that you figured out how to do it without having to re-install anything.

    🙂

Yes, I should probably have written the usual mention… Something like “doing changes to the registry is at your own risks and may defintely corrupt your system”.

Anyway it seems to work. Except for the name of video FX, which stay in French in the list where they appear.

regedit is a Windows system tool. Just go to the windows start menu, Execute… (or Run…) and type regedit, it will be launched.

However if you don’t know regedit, doing what I say is quite dangerous as you might corrupt your whole computer if you make a wrong change. Regedit gives you access to many many settings of everything in your PC. Using it without knowing it is not riskless.

    Hope this helps anyway.

    Best regards,
    Frederic
