Unbearable Lag In Vegas
Okay, so I got a new laptop about a month ago. It’s virus free, has 6GB of RAM, an i7-720M Quad Core processor, and a 1GB ATI Radeon.
I noticed as I edited on my laptop, Vegas got slower and slower after each video I went through. (I usually edit 1-2 videos a week).
Now I’m at this point where Vegas is so slow that I can’t even preview my clips. Even the “Shift+B” method is too slow. Just last week everything was working perfectly and now it’s so slow you might as well say I can’t even edit.
Yes, I have checked out the Preview Quality, I have lowered the Dynamic RAM Preview settings, I have “zoomed out” of my timeline, I have raised the priority in vegas through Task Manager. Nothing is working for me. Should I try to re-install Vegas?
Do note, nothing major has changed in my computer. I’m in college so I don’t download anything, so I doubt a virus could have gotten in.
Please help! I have projects to finish for school!

Gabe, I don’t want to insult you, but are you sure that your laptop is virus and malware free? I have heard of PC’s coming with viruses straight from the factory. It sure sounds like a virus or malware, so a quick scan couldn’t hurt. (If you have done a scan, please disregard.)
Also, I assume you have done the customary disk cleanup, defrag, chkdsk and all that?
Also, how full is your C drive? Drives that get 80%+ full tend to really slow down.

Hey there, no offense taken at all. I need all the help I can get.
I own Norton Anti Virus, and I’ve scanned with AVAST, both came up negative for viruses.I’ve done defrags and my C drive is more than empty. (The laptop is new and I have about 70% of my HDD free.
Does Vegas like….slowly destroy itself? I’m worried that the more videos I make the more my computer will die.

Wow, I’ve never heard of that. Sorry. I am hoping that John Rofrano or one of the experts will jump in. If they don’t jump in in a day, I am thinking that maybe you should re-post.
Vegas and other NLE’s are considered ‘non-destructive.’ That is, they don’t modify your files. They also should not damage your OS or your installation in any way.
Right now the only thing that comes to mind is Format C:\ and give it a known clean start. You could wait for a day for more responses, but Format C:\ might be your best option. It should also wipe out any kind of low-level virus or trojan or anything. Some of the more advanced malware target the various pro-level AV programs (e.g., Norton, McAfee, AVG), and so they escape detection: but Format C:\ should kill everything.
