I recently transitioned my system from Windows XP to Windows 7. Consequently, I reinstalled Vegas Pro 9 (in fact, this was a clean install of the application).

Upon opening one of my existing veg projects, I received numerous errors about “missing transition” effects, each of which was designated with a hexadecimal number.

If my memory is accurate, this problem was precipitated by having installed several older versions of Vegas, beginning with the Movie Studio version, including free “NewBlue” effects that Sony made available to us at the time. I’m pretty sure that having installed Vegas on my new system without those same effects caused the error I’m seeing now.

Here’s my question: is it possible to procure the same “free” version of those NewBlue effects at this late date? Is it possible to move the appropriate NewBlue dlls out of my Windows.old directory, and make them work with the new installation of Vegas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Carl

    1) Did you go from 32bit to a 64 bit version of Vegas?
    2) Did you re-install all plug-ins that were none-Sony plug-ins?
    3) Did you use some plug-ins (like Pro-dad stuff, Mercalli, etc) that need to do a scanning of the source marterial?

All these could be issues…hope it helps!

No, I’ve always run 32 bit versions of Vegas. I started with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum (which is where I believe I installed the free NewBlue package of transitions). I’m now using Sony Vegas Pro 9.

I don’t plan to transition to the 64 bit version of Vegas till October at the earliest.

If you obtained the free New Blue Effects with Movie Studio v8, you can download the effects here:
    https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/link?id=3327.0

If you obtained them with Movie Studio 7, they can be found here:
    https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/link?id=3163.1

In both case you will need the activation key that you have obtained from SonyCC. And most likely (but I’m not sure) you will need to install your version of Movie Studio again to be able to use these NewBlue effects in Vegas Pro 9.

I hope these are the effects you are talking about..

Hmm…when I run the newBlue installer, it’s asking for a “Registration code” that consists of three strings.

For Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8, I have “Serial Number” with four strings.

Do you know which Registration Code they’re talking about?

    Thanks,

    Carl

Yes you are right. Vegas Movie Studio serial number has four strings, just as the serial number for DVD Architect Studio. But I have received a third serial number when I purchased Movie Studio. This one has three strings and is used to unlock the NewBlue VideoFX MSP. You don’t have this one?

Which version of Movie Studio 8 do you have?

I had Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum version 8. I have the Serial Number for the product, although I don’t have the product installed right now.

I’ve actually gone ahead and started purchasing the necessary plug-ins from NewBlue. I’m going to be upgrading Sony Vegas to a 64 bit version in the near future anyway, so a purchase of the correct plug-ins will be essential by then.

Thanks for all of your help,

    Carl

    Three things:

    1. The serial number for the bundled NewBlue effects are included in the Sony packaging. Just get your old packaging out and it will be found there.

    2. You will also need to install the older Movie Studio packages in order for these to properly install and operate watermark free.

    3. When you move to 64-bit you’ll lose them all again. The retail versions are available in 64-bit but the products bundled with Movie Studio (which is only 32-bit) are only 32-bit.
