Honestly, I don’t know how to even describe this problem. This is by FAR the weirdest, most inconvienent and frustrating thing that my 64-bit Sony Vegas Pro 9 has EVER done.

So I’ve been working on this video using clips from many different sources – I am making a video using a collection of scenes and clips from different episodes of a TV show. I’ve been using these .avi episodes for a long time and never had a problem before, until today. When I opened my project today, clips that I had cut from for example, episode 3 are now randomly clips from an entirely different eipsode (example, episode 12) – a different .avi file in a different location.

When I right click on a changed clip and go to properties, under Media File>Active Take Name: Episode 3, the proper episode name is listed but now when I go to Properties>Media>File Name: Episode 12, it lists a random episode that it has been changed to (it should read Episode 3, the one I originally placed in the timeline).

Not all the clips in the project have been changed and more are changed everytime I open it. Not only is the video changing but the audio is changing as well, but sometimes the audio doesn’t even match the new clip or the original one!

So basically, I don’t have a freakin clue what is happening and I just want to find a way to change all the files back to the original one that I had it as, otherwise I’ll have to redo the entire video but I’m afraid this is going to keep happening every time I reopen Vegas. (Which is what I did last time I had this happen to me in another project but it wasn’t so intense, it was only one clip that I had to redo everytime, not half of my video.)

I’m sorry if what I’m saying doesn’t make any sense, I’ve tried searching for a solution to this problem but I can barely describe it because it’s so strange.

I haven’t changed any properties or moved any files to different locations so I see no reason why this randomly started in the first place.

If ANYONE has any inkling to what is happening please help me out.

If you need me to clarify on something I’ll gladly do so.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey!

I think i HAD a similar problem. My tip is this: Close Vegas, go to the folder with your videos. RENAME (or in my case DELETE) the clips which were substituted in your project (the new clips you see in your project instead the original you used). Now open Vegas and your saved project. Vegas will ask for the missing file. Now choose the RENAMED file, that is the original file. HOPE that was clear enough. Worked for me!!! Good luck!
