  Filters/EQ to bring out speech/reduce other frequencies.

  Hi everybody,

  I have a interview with background noise, it easy to hear the speech but I was wondering if there was a way to reduce the background noise. The obvious way to do this is apply a EQ where the frequencies for the voice were brought out and other frequencies dropped.

  Is this the way to go and how would I do this?

  What frequency range is the voice at? Or is there another approach I should take?

  If you don’t have Noise Reduction plugin for Vegas (comes with Sound Forge) then you’re going about it the right way.
  Cut all lows below 100 Hz and that’ll help a lot

  You also might want to look into purchasing a noise reduction plug-in. As Douglas said Sound Forge comes with Sony Noise Reduction but you could also get BIAS Sound Soap 2 ($89) or iZotope RX ($315). You really should have a noise reduction plug-in in your kit.

  I would rather use EQ than noise reduction filters (at least initially) as this should bring out the voice without changing it too much. From what I can remember Noise reduction works best if you have a fairly uniform noise like a hum. people walking around etc.

  I did Google for Vegas EQ but just got lots of Vegas Studio related stuff. I will have a play around with the audio filters when I get home.
