Canon FS20 incompatible with Vegas 10 HD?
I made a disappointing discovery this weekend. I was finishing a project and discovered that 6 minutes into the render my video fell apart. It started “wiggling” then went completely pixelated for a few seconds then straightened back out. It played fine thereafter (for 25 more minutes).
I went back and checked the source file (NTSC 720×480, 29.970fps, MPEG2, AC-3 Stereo from a Canon FS20 camera) and it played perfectly – all the way through – in Windows Media Player. When I preview the file in Vegas HD 10 Studio the video crumbles every time at the exact same spot – 6 minutes in.
So, there is a problem with Vegas reading this file.
I searched Google and found a solution that worked – but is odd and somewhat inconvenient. I “pre-rendered” the untouched source file, using the Canon ImageMixer 3 software, to the exact same format as the original (9MBS, 29.970fps, 720×480, MPEG2). Theoretically, this process should do nothing to the file’s data.
But it DID. When I opened this new “pre-rendered” file in Vegas it played perfectly and with no apparent loss of quality.
So, can anyone explain what is happening here? How come Windows Media Player can play the source file but Vegas cannot? What is the Canon software doing that “magically” fixes the incompatibility?
Sorry, there were no replies found.
