Soon I will be the market for a new DVD printer. I am currently using an Epson R340, but it’s just running out of gas (wear & tear)! From what I can see the new Epson’s look like they don’t use the loading tray anymore, but have some setup that you slip the DVD into (inside the printer). Does anyone have any experience with one of the newer Epson’s or can you recommend any other printers to use? I use the white Tayo’s.

    Thanks
    Dave P.

I’ve been using a Canon Pixma 3000 for a few years now – still going strong.

I have been using an Epson Artison 810 for a couple of months and am very satisfied so far but do not do a lot of DVDs currently. (Replaced an Epson 900

Terry, on the Epson 810 does the DVD feed into the printer on a remote tray or is the feed built into the printer? If it’s the latter of the two, does the feed system seem like something that is sturdy and would hold up to lots of DVD printing?

    Thanks

    Hi Dave,

I’m using the Epson R1800 which has been replaced by the Epson R1900.
To me it uses a little to musc ink but does a great job. Here’s a link for B&H Photo.

I’m a little new to needing to print labels on DVDs, but was wondering about getting a DVD labeler. As I read it, you can feed one DVD at a time directly into these things? Is it worth doing this over just printing a mass of labels? I find adhering the labels as needed pretty straightforward. Pros? Cons?

I use a Canon Pixma IP4600 for my clients. It uses a caddy mechanism to load and print ink jet printable discs.

I use to use labels but the glue tended to dry and the labels sometimes lifted. Plus, if you are not careful in applying them, an off-centre application can cause the disc to shatter especially on CD-R media that spins at 50X speeds.

I find printed discs just look more professional.

How do you protect the surface of the disk from being scratched on it’s path through the printer?

The i4600 comes with a caddy. You place the disc in it, push it in only so far, and then the printer takes over and pulls it in and prints on it. I have not had any issues with scratching. My main challenge has been taking the disc off before the ink has dried. I now wait a minute or so, or carefully handle the disc by the edges and place it to one side to dry.
