Safe shows well DVD Architect except for when I burn it
Posted by Ed Jones on July 10, 2010 at 11:18 pmHello,
I rendered a video as mpeg, VCD NTSC,624 X 480. When I burned the file to DVD all of the crossfades and transitions were choppy. I then rendered it as a mpeg 2,DVD NTSC, 624 X 480 and everthing was fine except for now all off the video is chopped off the TV screen when I put it in a DVD player. Even in DVD Architect it is inside the safe area but when I put it on DVD it is chopped off. How can I fix this.

NTSC is 720×480 PAR 0.9091 so that is what you should be rendering to. That is also what your project properties should be set to. There are Safe Area markers that show you the Action Safe and Title Safe areas. The Action Safe area is what is guaranteed to be shown on TV. All of your titles should be within the title safe area.
TV sets DO NOT show all the video. They never have. There is an area that is different for every TV that is never seen. There is nothing you can do about this since you can’t predict how much will be lost with each TV set.
Set you project to: NTSC DV (720×480, 29.970 fps)
Render to: MainConcept MPEG2 Template: DVD NTSCSee if that helps.

July 11, 2010 at 2:20 amI set it to those settings you recommended:
(720×480,29.970 fps mpeg2, template DVD NTSC) and rendered it. I then transferred it to DVD Architect. Everything is inside the safe area inner dotted line box but when I burn it to DVD and put it in 3 DVD players on 3 different TV the video is chopped off around the edges and I lose valuable text. -

July 11, 2010 at 4:42 amAre you looking at title-safe or action-safe? Typically 15% and 10% respectively.

July 11, 2010 at 1:45 pmOk I’m slightly confused on which is title safe area and action safe area but my video is right inside the 2nd outer dashed line. When I burn it to DVD it chops off valuable text. The size works out fine when I render as mpeg1 and burn it to DVD but I need mpeg 2 for the transitions/effects to show properly.
Not sure what to do. -

Yea, as Steve said, the text needs to be witin the Title Safe area which is the inner dotted line when you turn on safe areas in Vegas. Like this:

July 11, 2010 at 2:53 pmOk mine is right inside the Action safe area. On track 1, I have like 150 powerpoint jpeg slides that are 960 X 720. I guess when I saved the slides from microsoft powerpoint to a jpeg that was the default dimensions. Would i have to resize the source files from microsoft powerpoint or is there a way to squeeze it inside the title safe area in vegas.
Thanks for you guys help

July 11, 2010 at 3:49 pmYou could use ‘track motion’ to resize every event on the track to fit in the title-safe area.
