I want to set up a desk top PC mainly for editing with Vegas, and also for 3d animation software

Can you please advise me on the optimal hardware requirements, and any pitfalls……..ie Video Cards/ RAM/ CPU / monitor/ to make Vegas run well,….and render quickly…

    Thanks

You will want the fastest processor(s) your budget can afford. I have found great stability using an intel board with intel processors.

You will want a 64 bit capable system as well as a 64 bit operating system so you can install more than 4 gigs of ram.

You will want to install as much ram as your budget allows.

Video cards don’t matter as far as the current version of Vegas is concerned, but based on the release of the consumer version of Vegas with GPU rendering acceleration, I would buy a video card that supports CUDA.

The above is what I would focus on as far as Vegas is concerned.

My opinion is that they are currently not worth the money for the amount of storage you get in return. However, If you can obtain a fast solid state drive and use it for the OS and perhaps another just for programs you might see a slight gain in speed. You can get 10,000 rpm or 15,000 rpm drives probably cheaper than the solid state drives. Shop around- you might find a great ssd.

    HI Joeseph,

Here’s a link for some 10000 rpm internal hard drives.
Check out newegg.com or go to Fry’s Electronic store. I have the Western Digital 10000 rpm for one of my internal drives and it’s fast. I feel the need for speed.
