How can I replace a PNG with another PNG in the Edit timeline while still keeping edit points intact?

I searched for this and found many resources that cover how to do this with video clips but found none on how to do this with still images.

I wound up using Keyboard Maestro to automate the repetitiveness. But I will test your solution next time I have a similar project.

I have a lot of comps (74) all of which have a layer that extends past the length of the comp. I now need to adjust the length of the comp so nothing gets left out.

I know I can do this manually by opening the Comp Settings pop-up but I’m hoping there’s a shortcut or faster way?

Because I no longer have an AE subscription but even if I did, this job requires other things done in FCP that AE can’t do or would take way more time to do so.

Thanks for your reply. Each video needs its own project because they are all totally separate clips so they need to be exported separately once the work needed is done.

I have 100+ video files that I need to edit in FCP. Each video needs its own project. In After Effects I can simply select all, right-click, select create comps and Voila!, a comp is created for each video and named accordingly. Is there a way to do this in FCPX or is Apple behind the times on this one?

I just purchased Producer’s Best Friend and I think it can only do 1 XLS per Project. I realize I wasn’t clear in my original post but I need to be able to export an XLS that contains all the Projects within it.

This comment doesn’t add anything to help what you are looking for but I just wanted to say that Walter is an amazing human being. He helped me save perhaps dozens and dozens of hours with the script he made for me. Always grateful Walter!

This might be asking for too much but I’m wondering if there’s any way to obtain some form of text file (XML, CSV, or plain Text) that includes the name of the Project as well as any other assets within.

I did try the ‘w’ shortcut; also tried Q and E but none worked. I think I stupidly forgot to select my secondary storyline before trying the above-mentioned shortcuts. Now it works!

I’ve been battling with this for about 2 hours. I simply cannot insert an audio clip in between others without screwing up everything to the right.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your reply. I now see that I can open multiple projects with LPX but each opens in its own window. I guess I’m spoiled by FCP’s ability to open multiple libraries and within each, make use of events.

Now I wonder if any other DAW allows for similar organization capabilities.

Thank you. I did think of creating compound clips and I might wind up having to do this but I was hoping there was a more elegant solution. Creating compound clips feels more like a work around.

Say for example I have some footage that’s 1 hour long. From within this 1-hour long footage, I select many sub-clips by using keywords. For argument’s sake let’s say I call the keywords 1 star, 2 stars, and 3 stars.

I sometimes provide editing services for my client for jobs that contain many videos. I have to edit each video individually thus have to create many FCP Projects.

I really wish there was a keyboard shortcut for opening projects. Perhaps it’s hidden somewhere?
