So far this Compressor workflow is best and I don’t know why:
1) HDV 1080i clips >> DVCPROHD 720p60
2) DVCPROHD 720p60 >> ProRes LT 23.98 at 1280×720, Retime 100% of SourceStill steppy, so I look forward to opinions if any 3rd party app/plug-in will be better.

Thanks, John. I revised the filter settings as suggested and the conversion was much faster. The image quality was as good but the steppy motion just as bad.
Is it worth trying a plug-in from somebody?

Just last week I tested a long Photoshop roll against Boris in the 720 23.98 project we were finishing. Also made a DVD to see how good (bad) it would look there. Boris won due to slightly less strobing and a whole lot more edit-ability. A long list of credits tend to get tweaked, revised and re-thought almost every time they are rendered, right up until the deadline.
When you say you created your title in FCP and it strobed, was it Boris roll?
Also, I think any PSD resolution above 72dpi only serves to slow things down or trip things up. Plus, you can bring your file in as a layered PSD or if you don’t need layers try a PNG or TGA. TIFFs may be a problem.

About that credit: bad news is they are locked in as the final text has all been printed in the DVD version, forwarded with the fest materials and sent off in the copyright package.
Good news is we already credited CreativeCOW.net in the Special Thanks.
Would that be close enough?
For the next job I’ll name names!

Tried it on a 3-min segment of master timeline, and the export looks fine, just like the original to my eye.
I think this means my problem is solved. Thank you very much!

I will try it now and report back.

How about that! The instructions in the Decklink settings page describe how to disable Clean Aperture, but now we have Quicktime X, where the Show Properties tab is nowhere in sight.
I did a post recently when I discovered the new QT X in my MacPro, even after installing a new FCS, had no professional Export function. The solution was to install QT Pro 7 from the OS disk to get back the functionality. I guess they assume Compressor can do whatever QT Pro did (does).
The issue seems to be that the movie file is in fact 1280, but if it’s played out from QT Player, it may not get to the projector the same size. Another bridge to cross…

Oh, right!
The clip Compressor converted to 1280 has been brought into FCP and its Item Properties tell me it’s 1280×720, at 2.7MB/sec with square pixels.
QT Player says this same clip’s “Actual Size” is 1248×702 at 22.49Mbits/sec.I’m going with FCP on this one. It’s 1280×720 and that’s that.
Is it? -
Thanks, didn’t think of Streamclip. And I’ll get VideoSpec too, it’s on the Apple Downloads site.

Yeah, that high data rate looks great. If I can ever get the size right, I’ll be sending them choices including that topmost 22Mbit/s beauty.
I set the Resize to 1280, and the result was 1248. Meanwhile, Compressor’s setting for Apple TV yielded an actual 1280, albeit a low data rate.
If I can’t check the “actual” frame dimensions in QT, where in the world could I check it?
