    Hey Jim,

Never mind, I finally had a few free minutes and gave it a shot myself.

Sure enough, it did just as you said. Every time I go back to “Import Panasonic P2” it takes longer than the last time. If I quit the app, it speeds back up at first then starts all over again. Nice catch.

I showed it to one of the Engineers in charge of that part of the app and he was intrigued.

We’ve added it to our To-Do list, but it most likely won’t make the v13 release.

    Hi Jim,

Does this happen if you keep going back to the same P2 image or does if have to be a new image each time to make it slower?

Without knowing any of the details, one quick trick that comes to mind is putting the file into an AE comp and moving it up or down one line. As long as you render out to the same codec and settings, this should have the effect of swapping the field order.

    Sure, you can do that.

As for the Macs…it worked fine in every G4 made. So, pick the fastest one you’ve got and either put two drives in it or partition the system disk to get started.

Both v7.5.1 and v8.2.3a use the same firmware (03.18.2002), so both versions on two different startup disks can use the same card.

    On the OSX side:

-Media 100 i topped out at v8.2.3a (released March of 2006)

-The lastest OS we officially tested with was v10.4.5 (released in February of 2006). However, anecdotal evidence suggests that you can go all the way to OS 10.4.11.

-It was only officially tested up to QuickTime 7.0.4 (released in January of 2006). It’s possible that later versions are okay too but there’s less info out there about this (probably because most people are more in tune with their OS version than their QuickTime version).

***WHATEVER YOU DO WITH QUICKTIME, DO NOT UPDATE TO QUICKTIME 7.5.5, IT EFFECTIVELY “BREAKS” THE MEDIA 100 i CODEC***

Setting up the OS 9 side is a bit simpler:

    – Install OS 9.anything and keep running software update till the OS tops out at v9.2.2 and it doesn’t offer you any more updates.

    – Media 100 i v7.5.1 is the last version that works on OS 9.

    – The last OS 9 version of Boris Graffiti was v2.1.1.

  • Hi Andrew,

Though I hate to snuff out all sorts of wild speculation before it even gets started, we are not privy to anything about the new Macs.

Personally, I’m really hoping there’s something to the rumors about some sort of iPhone-ish color touchscreen in place of a touchpad. I’m not sure WHY exactly, but it sure sounds cool.

As for holding off the release, the only official announcement we ever made about it said October, and we’re absolutely on track for that.

Actually, Brian was able to do what he was looking for. He and I were on the phone yesterday (they have a Support contract) and we were able to tailor the Video Input/Output Preferences to suit his particular source video. It boiled down to a combination of the SMPTE vs. Beta setting for Component Video for the Input and the IRE setting for the Output.

    Hi Brian,

Try exporting as: Other > DV Stream and set the Color Range to: Computer (0-255). iDVD (and DVD Studio Pro) seem to be generally happier with this as a source.

October 2, 2008 at 11:45 pm in reply to: Media 100- stay or go?

A bit of clarification re: my previous post. I realize that it could be taken that I’m saying, “You’re stuck on M100.” That’s not what I’m saying at all. When I wrote “ANY NLE” I was including the new M100 software as well. The only Mac that you currently own that is likely to give you a good experience with the latest M100 software is the G5, and even that depends on the specs of the computer.

    Hi Terri,

My name is Wickham Strub, I’m the Product Manager for Media 100 edit systems at Boris FX.

The problem I see for you is that moving to ANY other NLE (besides perhaps an older version of iMovie) will require new Macs to make the move worthwhile. Having started my NLE experience years ago as a Video Production teacher, I can imagine how easy it’ll be for you to get 5 new Macs with new versions of NLE software.

I’d like to talk to you more about your options. Send me your contact info in an email to support@media100.com with my name, Wick, in the subject line so I can contact you off-list.

    Regards,
    Wick

    Hi Patrick,

What version of Media 100 are you using? Depending on the answer, I “MIGHT” have an idea that will work.
