Yeah the Kona Card route definitely seems like the best, but as stated before I don’t have access to something like this. All I have to work with is the camera, my mac, and yalls.

What if I transcode the HDV in compressor to Pro Rez? I can also do the deinterlacing here too.

I understand the quality will probably get messed with a bit, but I don’t have a grand for a kona card.

Yeah sorry, no, not the whole tape to TIFF, just portions of it.

Yeah whew I feel your pain.

I too always have such problems with mpeg2 compression for a DVD. Problems being: pixels are pronounced, even when viewing at native size, color gets all wonky – saturation/contrast issues. I also am usually fitting under 10 minutes of video onto a DVD.

I just figured this is the way mpeg2/dvd compression is.

I generally export using compressor from a FCP comp made up mostly of uncompressed QT at 1920×1080.

Are we just screwed for now?
