The most recent version has got miles faster exporting R3D to ProRes and h264, but as yet it still can’t compete with RedCineX Pro from our new Mac Pros. It’s still pretty sluggish when editing Dragon footage at 6K, but overall the improvements have been fantastic. Hopefully future versions will get even more smooth!

After buying Mac and investing heavily in thunderbolt 2 storage, it hasn’t been a possibility until now for us to consider moving back to PC, but with the HP range now supporting it, there is a way to do it without wasting £20k+ of storage.
Only problem is, we are using FCPX more and more, and for one particular project it is totally integral, and something Adobe cannot do….sometimes the extra grunt just isn’t worth it when a machine and software hasn’t let you down once in 2 years or so.

This is getting weird.
When I work with the Multicam Clip open, the waveform for Z is clearly visible and peaking at around -5db. Nothing comes from my external sound card. I’ve tried setting the external card to mono, stereo and 5.1 and it makes no difference.
The only time I can hear the audio is when I place the multicam clip inside a new project and select the audio from the inspector tab. Then it plays fine, but for working in the multicam viewer, I have no audio other than the A angle. The frustrating thing is that in Premiere, you can manually adjust in the program how your audio tracks are routed – nothing for me to adjust within FCPX.

Yes it’s activated and all others are off. No difference – I can’t hear the z angle. I can hear A, but only B, C or Z when looking at the clip inside another project and switching audio there

Have you tried using Blackmagic Media Express for the capture?

We’ve got a couple of the 6 core machines with D700s. They are fine for 4k, as long as it is ProRes material. r3d files need dropping to 1/2 resolution in premiere and in FCPX you can just about get by.
Having said that, with Dragon footage at 25p is useable for fast editing, but the resolution it can display is poor.
Transcoding times for 4K Red footage to 4K ProRes tend to be around 20fps in RedCine X, which means an hour of footage takes around 1hr20 to encode to ProRes at full debayer.
Hanging on as long as possible before we buy another as WWDC could throw out some new models somewhere along the line, which would be v cool.

The blackmagic releases were impressive, but the option to record vista vision resolution raw files alongside 2K ProRes to the same media whilst using an externally created iOS app for control and wireless monitoring via wifi, with live h264 encoding is incredible.

With redcine x and a new Mac pro with d700s, if I enable video output to ultrastudio 4k and a hdmi connected 4k monitor, performance slows to a snails pace. Unusable.
Davinci screwed up a huge project with audio issues, but for the most part our cinema camera has been a wonderful product. Just arrived 5 months late!
