Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. As mentioned to Noah, the camera was serviced a month ago, though it is only now that our editors found the glitch working back through the footage. So I am not sure if this has been naturally corrected in the service with software upgrades etc.
Rafael, thanks for your thorough look at the signal – an insight into where in the camera system the problem might occur. Thankfully this occurred in a still lower portion of screen, so we could duplicate that portion from frame before, problem solved – in this case.
Michael, not so isolated -I have seen this with Panasonic cameras – an HPX3000 was playing up and glitching regularly – we handed over to the techs who were able to replicate and the guts of the camera were replaced. The liver? The lungs? I wasn’t sure. In the case of the EX1, we were shooting with batteries that appear in good condition, and haven’t let us down since.
Dennis, owch… Your type of problem would really have had me worried! I have not come across that before, though the replacement outcome would have been appreciated.
Thanks team, will let you know if I ever solve the problem.

Thanks Noah,
The camera was serviced over a month ago now however its not until now that we are editing this particular footage. So I am not sure if recent software upgrades etc correct this issue yet.
Though I will always post my questions for feedback in this forum before I hand over my cameras back to the techs for four weeks – in the past this has saved me a lot of time!

Hi Craig,
Checked, and certainly I have the UPDATE option in my clip menu, so confirmed firmware 1.11. Anyway, I’ll trot down to Melbourne’s service centre tomorrow and chat to the techs there. I will certainly let you know what they think. Thank you.

Thanks Michael,
Though can I confirm with you – I reset the camera from the in-camera menu (the same sub-menu where I would change camera format etc). I tried this reset, and the camera seems to have gone back to factory settings (including wiping picture profiles etc), however the colour balance issue still remains – my sunlit white card still hits 8500K for an automatic white balance – where the other ‘normal’ camera A is getting the expected reading of 5600K.
Any other thoughts re reseting?

Thank you for your input, I will try reseting unit later in the day. On the firmware issue though – I couldn’t backtrack through this forum on how to check my firmware version.
I am sure Camera A has most recent firmware as it was services just over three months ago and had an upgrade. Camera B had one of the earlier upgrades prior to this…

…I guess my point was, if you’ve got the eye to spot when the EX1/3 lens is unsatisfactory, you’ll probably only be happy with the expensive lens and adaptors. Good luck!

Absolutely – stills lens are certainly cheaper than HD video lens (and I was refering to the HD video lens as the $10,000+ options). Your lens quality will vary though with price range and brand.
Its the purchasing of (again expensive) lens adaptors (like P+S, or Letus) that allow you to fit your existing SLR prime lens to EX1/3s and Reds. I guess my point was, if the EX1/3 lens doesn’t suit what you need re long zoom, it will generally be an expensive option to improve on it (ie, using the expensive HD video lens).
Certainly SLR primes might do a good job – but be aware that their is a big difference between a cheap prime and an expensive one – though if you have a lens you love already – you’re half way there – you just need to figure out which adaptor you need to fit it!

I am sure that to start to source adequate alternate lens for EX3 (and all lens for these ‘inter-changeable’ lens cameras, you are looking at $10,000+ for decent quality products.
Try looking at lens adaptors (like Letus etc) that will allow you to place your 400mm Nikon lens in front of your EX1/3w without removing any lens.
