Ehhh… I just don’t know. Maybe, maybe not… varying opinions there. I’ve known quite a large number of people who went through FS. They fall into two camps…. one group (I’d say about 15-20%, in my observation) that thought it was the greatest thing since sliced cheese, and the rest who think it was a giant load of crappola. There’s almost no gray area in between, based on the people I’ve talked with. One guy who I know who is probably FS’s biggest fanboy imaginable, well I’ve seen a good bit of his work and it’s… it’s… what’s the word?… “not good.” Of course he’s just one example.

Then again my own film school education is not worth the parchment it’s printed on.

Per my previous post…

I know the obvious answers are “Ask the hospital for it” or “Can’t the manufacturer give you video?” which does seem logical… but we’ve hit a wall with both of those avenues so I’m looking elsewhere.

We are having trouble getting what we need using the obvious avenues, as you mentioned…which were of course the first methods tried, as stated. That’s why I’m looking elsewhere. We are not necessarily representing that the images we will be using are actual CT angio images from this machine, it just has to be in-the-neighborhood representational. Hard to explain without revealing the script (which I can’t), but it doesn’t have to be the “real thing.”

By the way, that could just be the way your Quicktime viewer is displaying it, mushing frames together for some reason.

Why haven’t you tried it in FCP yet??? You’d know instantly if you have an issue or not… this might be a problem that doesn’t even exist.

That’s exactly what I was thinking too… seeing the source file would let us know if it is ok or not, but it does clearly look like a “using it at the wrong framerate” issue.

It does not look interlaced though, which is often the problem with this “ghosting.” Rather, it looks like two progressive frames blended together.

My guess is that the source footage is fine, that this is happening in post.

Any way you can upload the original raw source file? Investigating that might help.

Definitely a blessing.

I haven’t done any side-by-side comparison or seen any actual technical specs, but to me there are only two test instruments that matter — my eyeballs.

MXF files look pretty much absolutely flawless (I generate them 50Mbps with my C300PL every day). Absolute zero artifacts and no visible compression whatsoever, fast motion, rapidly changing scenes, whatever… it is rock solid.

And the files drop right into editing like a dream without any conversion, hoop jumping, or any other kind of voodoo needed at all.

Love it.
