Ok so her is the latest thing that’s popping up after an all night render. I get a message that says

“Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card”.

Bow of course when I try to find a shot that I may have missed which could be the RED cam footage even though I have the right RED cam quicktime codec, it crashes on me. I have repaired disc permissions and I have trashed the prefs as well as re-install just FCP and still im getting nowhere. I truly appreciate everyone’s support but at this point I feel doomed and unlikely to be helped. Please keep your suggestions coming as I will try everyone to see where I end up. Hopefully I wont lose my movie in the end.

    Thanks

Learnt it the hard way I guess. I wish I knew this before I created a film with over 2000 cuts and transitions and all that. I will start from scratch and see what i can save I guess. Thanks for all the help.

I have no chocie but to transcode all my footage to prores I guess. So what are the exact steps I need to take to do this? I have my folders with all the original footage in it so d oI move them through Compressor then link them up again in the time line? i have some from After Effects that are already done with composites and so on so I guess those will be left alone right?

    Thanks

Thanks for the tip but I have done that and it seems now im worse off with the timeline being pro res. I have a bad feeling im screwed here! I have removed the filters and cant even get 5 seconds of work done which is not even work but 5 seconds of looking at my timeline before it crashes. I have deleted the RED cam footage, Ive removed filters, Ive created the pro res sequence, what more can I do??

    Thanks

Forgiver me you are right because at this point I feel like tying my MAC to my feet and jumping off a bridge with with it! What I have done is create a new sequence with Pro Res 422. Now I am trying to peel the Magic Bullets looks filter off it but it keeps crashing so I dont get very far. I will tell you the actions I am about to take so its more clear.
    1) I will remove all attributes which are filters in my case
    2) I will do a re-render of sequence to see if it makes it with out a crash
    3) I will remove all attributes then reinstall FCP in hopes it catches something.

I hope these are the right steps for success. I am so close to finishing my movie and actually have a huge meeting set up with Rob Zombie to see if he will present it and without a film I’m hooped! It seems now that I have changed the sequence to Pro res it crashes before it launches so im worse off then before. Panic button is definitely pushed now! Pleeeeease let me know what I can do to get out of this hell hole. I did add some RED cam footage last week which I guess now that I think of it has caused more issues then im used to. Could the RED cam footage being added be the missing link??

    Thanks

I actually created a brand new sequence and made necessary changes. However I have not taken off all filters yet. I will try that but it crashes so much I barely get to move ahead. Do you know if upgrading to FCS 3 may help?
    Thanks

I actually did do the RAM removal test and nothing! I am using Nagic bullet looks filters?? Could Red giant be the culprit?

Thanks for the RAM tips. I will pull some out or should I put more in? If 10 is odd then is 12 good. Also I have 500 gigs on the drive where fx is installed and 150 on the second internal drive. I’m just so upset with my mac. Is it the software or hardware?
    Thanks

    Hi Shane,

Thank you so much for the clear advice on the issue. However I did manage to go and switch out my graphics card from the ATI Radeon HD 2600 to a Nvidia 8800 GT and I still had the same crashes occur. I then took the card back and switched back the old one. Im getting the crash more and more often even when I play the timeline the hit space n=bar to stop so I can select a clip. Then the beach ball happens and back to the crash. Ive killed the FCP preference files and reinstalled FC and still no luck. So should I change my sequence timeline to what you suggested? This would mean that I have to render footage every time I play with it though correct? Any more advice form yourself or anyone would be a life saver. Im trying to finish my movie Bong Of The Dead and this is really killing me.

    Thank you

I am also having this issue where my RAM previews are glitchy and all over the map or things freeze up. It sucks to say the least. I have a 2 X 2.8 GHz Quad core Intel Xeon with 10 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM and still this problem. How much more RAM do I have to put in this thing then wholr 32 GIGS?? If anyone has any clues or optimal setting sugestions please spred the love.

    Thanks
