This is what I’ve been doing also and it works just fine. However I can’t fit all of my data onto the DVD as I exceed the limit because of so much video. Do I need to compress the files again in compressor after exporting as QT mov? I’ve tried compressing them to MP2 format in compressor but…..then I’m unable to use them in iDVD? Help please!

November 30, 2011 at 1:29 pm in reply to: Mpeg 2 settings are not DVD compliant ???……..Hey Chris
thanks for the reply. I’m using HD 720p from the camera. I dump the footage onto my imac and send it to compressor for Prores. After editing I export the footage as a Quicktime movie. At this point I can easily drop and drag footage into iDVD. However the videos take up a lot of space on a 4.7 DVD (really 4.2). Once I take the footage into compressor and compress it to MP2 I’m unable to drop and drag or import the compressed footage to iDVD. Not sure what I’m doing wrong so any help is appreciated.
Thanks!!

November 30, 2011 at 6:10 am in reply to: Mpeg 2 settings are not DVD compliant ???……..So if I’m filming in 720 from my camera do I need to change it again in FCP? i’m using FCP7 and I am running my footage from my camera to apple pro res and then importing to FCP. After editing I export as a Quicktime movie and can begin to construct my DVD in iDVD. However I can’t fit much footage onto the DVD. I tried compressing them to MP2 and MP1 format but after doing so I’m not able to drag and drop the footage into iDVD. Any ideas?

David you helped me out before so i’m hoping you’ll have the answer to this question. I’m taking my footage from my Kodak playtouch and transcoding it with Apple Pro res 422. Bringing it into FCP and doing my editing. After editing is complete I’m exporting the clips as a Quicktime movie. After exporting I’m able to drag and drop my footage easily into iDVD. It works great however I’m not able to bring in that much footage as it fills up pretty quickly on a standard DVD with all the video footage. 4.7 GB goes real quick. What can I use to compress this footage to fit more onto my DVD’s? I tried using an MP2 and MP1 setting in compressor for the videos but after compressed they would not drag and drop into iDVD? I know it’s user error so hopefully you can help me out with this.
Thanks in advance

November 30, 2011 at 5:43 am in reply to: starting from scratch – file format and DVD’sThis is great information. One more question. I run my raw footage thru compressor Apple Pro res before bringing into FCP. After editing is complete I export as a quicktime movie. From there what should I do? Do I need to run the edited footage thru compressor before dragging it to iDVD? I can just drag and drop the Quicktime movie’s to iDVD with no problem, however I cannot put that much footage on the DVD as with so much video it runs 4.7GB very quickly.
I’ve tried taking the Quicktime movies and bringing them into compressor and change them into an MP2 file type but then the files will not drag and drop into iDVD. Is there any way I can compress these files so I can fit more data onto a DVD?
Thanks

Will do. Can you all give me some advice as to what to do before dragging my footage into FCP? I’ve received mixed ideas on this. Some say to wrap the video in Apple Pro res in compressor before bringing into FCP and others say to not send it to compressor at all and then others say wait til editing is finished and then send it to compressor. Thoughts?

I’m just using a Flip camera at 720P. The audio file I was importing from Studio one was at 44.1khz. I’ll change it to 48khz and see if that does the trick. Also Michael to answer your question on “why do you need to render” That’s just what FCP is telling me sometimes when I bring in the Video and Audio to link up it just beeps at me until I render both. I know I’m doing something wrong so any advice you all have would be great.
