September 23, 2016 at 9:24 pm in reply to: why would anyone want to use FCPX (SERIOUS discussion – no bashing)Just saw this and had to chime in. I started similar thread on LinkedIn, but here are some points anyhow:

September 9, 2016 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Need to keyframe a rig snapshots in FCP X. Can’t figure it out. It’s too bad they can’t be keyframed in FCP X. I like using the states so that I can have exact positioning of the chat messages. Right now it’s just a manual sort of thing – set start keyframe, set keyframe some seconds later to match the first position, then move the scroll up, and set keyframe again. Repeat as necessary per the timing of the messages.
If I could keyframe the states, I wouldn’t have to have manually move the scroll up. I could just choose the state and voila.
It’s be nice if we get a Motion update with an FCP X update soon. I’ve been using Motion for a while instead of AE for a lot of work.

I’ve been using Pixelmator for years now and really love it for jut getting things done quickly and leveraging editorial plugins that I have. I have only used Affinity when it was in beta phase and it was very impressive.
For now Pixelmator has done what I need and I go to Photoshop if I need anything beyond that.

August 28, 2016 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Type-On generator with animate and blinking cursor? Thanks. This is what I tried on my own. I used the oscillate parameter and animated it myself. There has to be an easier or rather an alternate way. When you’re typing a lot of text, this would just take a very long time.
I wish there was a way to get the line shape to react to each character when typed. I attempted to try that idea by using the “repel from” behavior but the problem is text in Motion is not seen as an object the line can repel from. Additionally, I cannot get the line to see the bounding box of the text as something to repel from as more is typed on.
This is tricky thing to do. After effects seems to be able to do it because it has expressions in it. I cannot figure out how to do this in Motion.

Another case of simple human error and I just need to slow down. I see what you’re talking about now. I was only paying attention to the direction and not the “type” option.
Arghh

At least I am not crazy. This has been a bug (at least I think it’s a bug) that is really problematic – forcing me to have to build things in Motion rather than just use a transition.
Same goes for the built in shape mask filter and then making compound clip of things with masks on them – gets all messed up.

Just finished testing PluralEyes 4. I was really hoping it would do some of the things I’d want like individual clips without stripping that original audio.
Here’s the short of it (confirmed with a phone call to RedGiant Support)
-Multicam option gives one long multicam sequence (storyline) of all events rather than individual multicam clips
-Replaced audio limits picture to length of synced audio (may want the video after that)
-Only way to get individual synced clips is using the replace audio feature which creates clips as compound clips rather than FCP X synchronized clips.
-Confirmed with phone call. PluralEyes 4 can only return synchronized individual clips if you choose the replace audio feature. As stated before. I like that FCP X keeps the main audio with it as sometimes I actually do need it (for certain types of shots). Additionally I like having the video past the synced portion of audio as is not the case with PluralEyes generated individual clips.
I am starting to wonder if the architecture of FCP X puts limits on 3rd party apps being able to create clips for FCP X as though FCP X created them; perhaps it’s a limitation of the XML. I am not sure.

June 6, 2016 at 4:53 pm in reply to: Swapping out wrongly synced footage in timeline – how?The automatic methods of FCP X have not been a problem for me. However, I too wish there were more options with relinking as well as better reporting of what’s actually happening when FCP X is doing things rather than just a percentage number and progress bar.
