[Andy Mees] “”squeeze” is horizontal during recording.
during display its a stretch,”Yeah – I get that, but in my brain FCP should be doing a distort – not a scale! I’m sure it’s just the way my brain works! 🙂

[Jerry Hofmann] “the same number of pixels are used, however they’ve been squeezed to create the 16:9 image..”
But the squeezing is horizontal isn’t it? So in my brain the image is wider, so the left and right edge should be cropped. – not scaled to fit?

Although it’s the correct workflow the whole zooming to 133% has always bugged me a bit… After all anamorphic and non-anamorphic clips have the save vertical dimensions, so in my brain applying a scale seems somehow wrong!
Probably just me…

IMHO I’d stay away from Sorenson these days. If you’re making a quicktime for distribution H.264 gives much better results, unless you really need QT5 compatibility.
Sorenson is an old web codec (2001 I think) and I believe it’s day has come and gone. Unless you really need QT5 compatibility.

[Bob Zelin] ”
I don’t know who your client base is, but little companies like Disney, Universal, Electronics Arts, and others find “crappy little” HDCam and DVCProHD to be mastering formats.”You can add all the UK broadcasters to that list – including the BBC. HDCAM is the de-facto UK broadcast HD delivery format.

If you’re working with PAL material – I have to say that the FCP scaling is really good. We’ve done tests using the Kona3 upconvert compared to FCP scaling, and we think the difference is really slight…

December 21, 2007 at 12:37 pm in reply to: Editing mixed PAL and NTSC footage for NTSC outputYour render times for 6 hours of material are going to be loooooong. Especially you decide to use compressor… Brace yourself if you have an older machine!
