Yeah I completely agree with you and like you say, learning the technique teaches a lot more that will be useful down the line. I was just surprised to find so many multi cam set ups where I assumed they’d be single.

    Thanks for your response.

    Stuart.

Ah, so frame by frame adjustments really are the only option then.

If I’m honest I don’t understand why it’s not possible to link a mask to motion tracking data and for it to follow the motion well enough to not need to adjust it every few frames but I’ll take your word for it!

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for your reply.

I’m sure there must be a better way to do this, in the video you linked to he just roughly places the mask back in place at 3 or 4 points along the timeline. That’s fine for the work he is doing but my mask is relatively complicated and needs to be more accurately moved frame-to-frame.

Could you describe in what order I should place the layers (Footage, Matt painting, Black Solid with mask) and what to set their track matte to for me please?

    Thanks again.

August 27, 2011 at 6:18 pm in reply to: Where can I download the DivX codec?

Ah ok, thanks for that. Someone told me it was a good codec so I was just gonna give it a try.

Im actually having a problem with rendering with the quicktime codec (which is what I normally use), so was looking for the DivX as an alternative. To be honest Im not all that clued up about codecs and definitely need to do some reading up!

All Im trying to do is render a very simple short animation made entirely in AE (there’s no actual filmed footage involved) to eventually be uploaded to a website, what codec should I be using?

    Thanks again for the help.

    Stuart.

  • The quality coming out of AE is perfect, it’s just coming out of Premiere thats the problem.
Ive tried numerous codecs with no luck. I then tried exporting it as an uncompressed AVI but that wouldn’t play with any media player I tried (VLC, Windows media player etc)

I’ve gotten around it by simply sorting all my audio in premiere then copy and pasting into back into AE but that cant be the best way to sort it surely!?

  • Thanks for the advice.

Could I ask why you’d chose this option? The quicktime codec works and looks great so what benefit would a tiff sequence offer?

Still no clearer about the quality when exporting from premiere though…

    Thanks.

  • Sussed it!

  • Cheers Chris thats perfect!

    One last thing…

My track point moves off screen halfway through the shot, can I create multiple stabalize track points and link them together to smooth out the entire shot?

Ive done this when simply tracking motion but can’t seem to be able to suss it out if Im stabalizing.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi.

Im afraid I can only give you some basic details at the mo…

Yeah Im using AMA, the clips are 1080p .mov files straight off my camera and the project settings match this. I’m using quicktime 7.

Everything was working fine until I saved the bin, closed the project and tried to reopen it.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

  • I can only use the built in tracker with CS3. It’s a work computer and the admins have it locked down so i cant install mocha…
